I would recommend Love in the Time of Science by Emilíana Torrini, if you haven’t heard it. Similar vibe to the Beth Orton record, folksy trip hop and electronic vibes.

Skipping over the artists who I assume you know by name / reputation, here's what those on my list sound like if you're looking for ideas! Have added in a youtube link for a quick check if it sounds right for you.

Capsule - Stereo Worxxx; Hyperactive Japanese dance-pop, that's a little silly but full of energy. Won't change your life, but will get your head bopping.

Yeule - Serotonin II: Downtempo glitchy electronica, sometimes a bit uncomfortable and difficult, but more melody and hooks the more you listen.

The Sugarcubes - Life's Too Good / Stick Around for Joy: Bjork's indie rock / post-punk band before going solo. Slightly off kilter sounds, but a great sense of humour with the whole thing and her brilliant vocals.

Tusks - Dissolve: British electronic / indie rock artist, slow and powerful stuff.

Boris - Pink : Just massive riffs, deserves to be listened to at full blast. This band have a male singer just as an FYI.

Beth Orton - Central Reservation: Blend of folksy singer-songwriter stuff with a bit of background electro noises as the rhythm section.

Emilíana Torrini - Love in the Time of Science: A bit similar to the above, but with more trip-hop influences.

An Horse - Rearrange Beds: A two piece guitar and drum band, making indie rock songs. Nothing you won't have heard before, but delivered with gusto and earnest.

Pinkshinyultrablast - Everything Else Matters: Russian Shoegaze / dream pop band, shimmery and beautiful with a great guitar and bass tone.

Porridge Radio - Every Bad: British based garage rock band - this album is pretty recent from 2020, but have been listening to it a lot since then.

I decided to make a list containing only 1 album from each of my 50 favorite artists. I also figured that I’d try to focus on albums that feature women/non-male artists as the primary singer or songwriter, so bands like Low, who would otherwise be on here, were left off.

Tried to make list! It’s extremely heavy on recent years, I’ll have to make an effort to check out some older albums. Not sure this is the best place for this exactly, but Ronnie Spector has sadly passed away.

    https://www.ronniespector.com/

Would recommend that anybody who hasn't heard it checks out The Ronette's only studio album, Presenting the Fabulous Ronettes Featuring Veronica. It's wonderful pop music, beautifully sung and with excellent "Wall of Sound" production. One of my absolute favourite pure pop albums ever, never fails to put a smile on my face - joyous, lovely music, and worth listening to today especially.
