I'm honestly interested in my reaction when I throw this on at the end of this year. So far, been putting some interesting choices.
Ha, same. Especially at the beginning of the year, I go off on all these weird random tangents with my listening because there's not much new stuff to occupy my time. Will be kind of cool to have a signpost of sorts marking those.

How are you picking songs, just on that day you are adding a song that like, you're feeling? Or is is some other thing?
It's honestly a little bit of everything. Sometimes it's something I listen to during the day. Other times, it's something random that pops in my head, which leads me to listen to it. For example, added Cry Me a River by JT as one of my three songs today. For whatever reason, I hum that at work from time to time when I'm trying to focus in on a task or waiting for software to load.
Been jamming Prince, old U2, and '90s Radiohead this week, so all of those are in the mix so far. Yeah, my first pick was the new Andrew McMahon song, for obvious reasons. Then it's just stuff that I've been jamming on runs or have found myself gravitating to throughout the days for repeat listens.
For me so far, I have Pointer Sisters (80s), RATM (90s), Thrice (00s), Wolf Alice (10s), and PVRIS (20s), among others. Random distribution of songs.
When I was initially coming up with the concept, debated about starting off with just 2021 by Vampire Weekend. Then I got an email from Andrew's mailing list, and felt inclined to expand my criteria to up to three songs a day.
Love it! I retroactively picked a few songs from the first 4 days based on what I listened to and I think I'm off to the races! Here's where I'm at, just for fun Andrew McMahon In The Wilderness - New Year Song Francis and the Lights - You Still Take Me To The Light Caylee Hammack - Family Tree Ellie Goulding - Tides BROCKGHAMPTION - GINGER
Haha, it was a no-brainer. I'm just doing one song a day, but I'm sure 2-3 songs per day serves the same kind of purpose. Welcome aboard!
Hell yeah The Purple One. Fiancée got me the 10-disc remastered Sign O the Times for Christmas and I can’t wait to dig in
So I’ve been spending a fair amount of time with 1999, Sign O the Times, and Purple Rain, but I’m not super familiar with his other work. Where should I go next?
I consider his Trinity to be Purple Rain, Sign O the Times and Dirty Mind. Dirty Mind is the moment where he went from amazing R&B singer to wild, perverted genius. And it's so short and sweet. Does not fuck around one bit. I think you might be blown away by "When You Were Mine" I'm a huge fan of Prince, too. He hadn't blossomed into a unique genius yet, but he was SO good at doing mainstream frizzy funk/R&B. For some reason I have a sneaky suspicion you'd particularly dig Parade. A lot of the album is basically Prince doing Side B of Abbey Road, and then the fully fleshed out songs are unreal. I think you'd really like "Sometimes It Snows in April", one of his 3 all-time-great closers. Honestly, everything from the s/t through Sign is brilliant, but everything he ever released has value.
I’ve done the one song a day playlist for the last 3 years (among other kinds of playlist-oriented listening) and can vouch that it is excellent way to remember music. I only add songs I've heard for the first time in the year though, not just whatever I want.
