Feel like folks in here would like this. My local public radio station (and former work office!) WXPN is counting down their 2020 favorite songs of all time. They're about to get to the top 500 and you can listen here: WXPN Home For the stat heads, they've also got some numbers updating as they go: https://thekey.xpn.org/wxpn-2020-numbers/
Yep, and it's searchable! Keep in mind that most of the voters are boomers from the Philly/New Jersey area. I'm sure you'll dig number 1. Fun fact, it's actually been the same #1 all three times they've done this over the last decade. XPN's 2020 Countdown - ALL TIME GREATEST SONGS
I'm an XPN listener and member! This was my ballot: “Allison” by Elvis Costello “Kathleen” by Josh Ritter “Tunnel of Love” by Dire Straits “When My Time Comes” by Dawes “Thunder Road” by Bruce Springsteen “America” by Simon & Garfunkel “Big Brown Eyes” by Old 97s “Hackensack” by Fountains of Wayne “Waiting For My Real Life To Begin” by Colin Hay "The Best Ever Death Metal Band in Denton” by The Mountain Goats
Got a vinyl copy of Bill Withers’ Live At Carnegie Hall for Christmas. Sounds great, and the stage banter in between songs takes on an extra in-the-room dimension on vinyl speakers.
Not sure if this is the best place for this, but working on a project for this year. Every day, I add 1-3 songs to this playlist to document my listening habits throughout the year 2021 Mixtape Challenge, a playlist by efc9795 on Spotify
A list like that is mostly how I listen to new music. I just collect songs I like that year and listen to that playlist a lot.
I burn/buy CDs for my car too, but mostly albums because that’s when I actually am in the right mindspace to listen to albums. I made a lot of “mixtapes” when I first got a car though. Good times. This was one of my car mixtape heavy hitters:
I used to buy CDs all the time up until a few years ago when someone stole all three CD cases. I think it was a sign to finally move on
I wouldn't buy new CDs for my car, but I def go back to what's left of the old collection I still have. When I got my first car, it was nothing but Downward is Heavenward, Kid A, and Wolf haha.
Yeah I haven't bought any new CDs since 2014, and actually started selling all my old ones a year or so ago. But for some reason, I still am very much into burning mixes on CD. I guess it doesn't really make sense, but whatever.
I’ve been keeping yearly playlists of songs I dig or don’t wanna forget about for 7 or 8 years. I don’t tend to listen to them, but it’s a cool time capsule
I make lots of playlists encapsulating years/seasons in different ways, but I've never done the "one song a day as the year goes" kind of thing, which I think could make for a fun time capsule when all is said and done.
