I think the thing that’s made it look like it was on the rise is that it was popular in the era of rock dominance (look at the first Rolling Stone list or the Grammy win), but as the dominance of rock has receded with more recent music fans, Rumours has stayed because it also appeals to indie fans for the production and pop fans for the vocals and hooks. So if you stay in the same place while everyone recedes back, it looks like you’re gaining
i feel like the same thing kind of goes for a lot of the albums of that era tbh. the same could be applied to ziggy
we got Breaking Benjamin next to Obsequiae next to Jars of Clay next to Mae next to Eternal Champion...
Considering that my top five is Thrice, two punk albums, and two grindcore albums - I'd be in good company. Also totally realized after looking back at my list that I missed an album that'd be in my top ten if I redid it - Mastodon's Leviathan.
I listened to the ludicrously titled What People Call Low Self-Esteem Is Really Just Seeing Yourself the Way That Other People See You by a group (person?) named Awakebutstillinbed, because the name jumped out to me in it's silliness. I can't remember who's list it was on, though sorry! I added a bunch of albums onto my Apple Music from here, but didn't make a note who included it in their list. Not really sure this was for me, I really wasn't a fan of the lead singer's voice, very nails on a chalkboard to me, really couldn't stand her singing, just way too tuneless for me. The first three minutes of the opening track were absolutely horrendous, and I was wondering if I should give up on it already. Once the band kicks in it does get a bit better, and instrumentally it was pretty classic lo-fi emo / punk sounding songs, but nothing particularly memorable there. Melodramatic to the extreme, it was just about okay when it was all chaotic and yelling, where it sounded like those mid-90s screamo bands like I Hate Myself and Orchid and that sort of thing. Reminded me a bit at times like a (not as good) version of Home, Like NoPlace Is There. The slower and more melodic bits didn't work for me at all, unfortunately, really didn't enjoy them. An eye catching album title though, I'll give them that!
Lol, it was my list. Cool that it got you to give them a try! It’s definitely not for everyone. I think you’re right on with the Home comparison, I definitely love the albums for similar reasons.

The only albums I ranked in order are 1-10 because those are for sure. The rest vary like crazy. Shout out to the hip-hop classic threads. I've been exposed to such amazing music I wouldn't have found otherwise.
Starting to chip away at some of the albums I haven't heard yet. Shout at the Devil from @Blainer93's list is doing way more for me than I thought it would
Newsboys album was a journey. I couldn't figure out why it sounded familiar and then I looked at Wikipedia and saw they had songs in VeggieTales
I didn't listen to secular music until like ninth grade (grew up as a preacher's kid) and Newsboys were like, thee band I was super into
Somehow got unsubscribed from this, so playing catch up! You’re in for a treat! That album is super dynamic and fun/occasionally agonizingly heartbreaking. Hell yeah! This is my favorite record from this year by a wide margin and just absolutely blew me away for all the reasons you mentioned. Glad you enjoyed it. Love these two lists especially and think it’s interesting we all picked different Dawes records.
