Another forum that I frequently visit put together a list years ago where the only rule was you couldn’t include any album from Rolling Stones 500 greatest list. The final list was really interesting. I specifically remember Hats by The Blue Nile being in the top 5 of that list. Now that I’m seeing it pop up on a lot of these lists as well I’m thinking it’s time I finally give it a listen.
Been using this thread as inspiration, but now I've come tor realize I just need not to overthink it and just go with it.
Had to just give up and stop tinkering. Top half is pretty strictly my favorites, but because the next tier is like 50ish I leaned a little more towards artists I hadn't included yet or that I didn't think would get other votes. 1. Really cool list, especially these picks. Eat to the Beat JUST missed mine, too. Also I haven't heard that Stone Poneys record but any Linda Ronstadt makes me smile
If I realized Live at the Harlem Square Club or As Tall As Lions had a real shot, I'd have fudged the sorting to get them on my list. So much for strategy.
Tough choice for me between that and some of her solo (Heart Like a Wheel especially). You should check it out!
I love her whole run from Heart Like a Wheel through Mad Love, but yeah I need to get to some Poneys stuff for sure.
will start with inspectorkemp's list tomorrow. got 18 lists done so far. the top 10 so far, as it stands, is: 1. Fleetwood mac - Rumours 2. Kate Bush - Hounds of Love 3. The Gaslight Anthem - The '59 Sound 4. Kendrick Lamar - To Pimp a Butterfly 5. Death Cab for Cutie - Transatlanticism 6. Nas - Illmatic 7. Jimmy Eat World - Clarity 8. Nick Drake - Pink Moon 9. Motion City Soundtrack - Commit This to Memory 10. Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream maybe I just delete the list lol. jk. still have about another half of the lists left, so a lot can change. maybe we give it another week to allow more lists to come in?
whatever, the people have spoken(/are speaking). the cool part of this list for me is gonna be the lower reaches any way
I've only heard two of these albums lmao. My taste is so shitty Whatever I'll always rep Jars of Clay
being on this website and not having heard all three of 59 sound, cttm and clarity is pretty impressive frankly
Considering the nature of consensus, that's actually a pretty cool list. 18 is only like half the ballots though
we have 700+ albums right now. about half the lists left. what number do we think we want to stretch this out to? more than 100 definitely seems doable.
