Shocked 100 gecs didn't make it onto the playlist. Their random ass lyrics are part of their charm though
I won’t say yet but I will once the round is over One of them was picked pretty late because I definitely had it locked up for over a day after submissions started
The point of this round is like the song being great despite of the lyrics right? That’s how I interpreted it
I've certainly said similar things in other rounds, but will be tough to decide on the votes and whether it "objectively" fits the category theme. Because lyrics are so subjective. I'll likely vote for a song if I like it regardless of my take on the lyrics.
I thought about submitting a non-English song actually, was going to go with Rosalia, but in the end I didn't think it was the best use of the prompt because while I personally don't understand the lyrics, I felt bad thinking that the lyrics are "bad" or negative in any way
Yeah, this is what confused me about the Japanese track here because I enjoyed it quite a bit. I think I'll be giving one point based on whether I think the lyrics are bad and a second point based on whether I like the song regardless. Lots of lyrical variety here ranging from "not so bad" to "irredeemable" lol
Gotta be honest …. After 27 years I am somehow just learning the actual lyrics to the chorus of Got the Life. I love learning new things lol.
I think I'll dish out initial points based on the songs I like and then do an analysis of the lyrics along with the submitter's comment to see if I think they fit the prompt.
My problem with this round was that I had way too many options, but wanted to find something where the lyrics weren't truly gross / too offensive, but still bad enough. My second choice was Circa Survive's "Birth of the Economic Hit Man". The lyrics aren't egregiously bad, but they're so shallow/surface level and just a waste of an otherwise fantastic track:
You have all been saved from my first choice this round but oh boy do I have a zinger for the horn round.
I'd argue there is a difference between bad lyrics and simple lyrics and some of the songs on this playlist definitely fit the latter category for me.
Ngl I had a hard time figuring out something I didn't like the lyrics to so I just went with something that's stronger musically than lyrically which fits the theme well too imo
There were a couple of bands that came to mind for this round, but I had already used Third Eye Blind a couple of rounds ago. I think I'm happy with what I ended up choosing even if it's not my favorite on its respective album.
