Do people not know the other Rick Rubin-era Johnny Cash stuff is great too or why does only Hurt ever appear on this website haha
I totally thought of "Rusty Cage" from American II, but Cash was 64 when that came out lol. American IV has lots of great ones though, you're right.
That was my first time hearing Hurt and I am in love. Oh Me Oh My and Hello Happiness were a couple others that really stood out
Same! If I'm in a league with downvotes and it comes up I downvote it Whoever submitted it should've gone with "The Man Comes Around" instead.
I mean, even outside of this website, it's one of his most popular songs at this point How is this even possible??
I sorta hated the song when it first came out (young and dumb etc etc,) but I think it's great now. Definitely prefer the original though
Damn I bet this Bob Seeger song makes some people cry. Not me tho. And definitely not at the last verse.
Okay so my initial pick was the latest Madonna track, or more accurately The Weeknd feat. Madonna, as I've heard it a lot recently and it's the first one that came to mind. Turns out she turned 65 literally weeks after the song was released, oop. I also thought of submitting a song from David Bowie's Blackstar but considering he passed away like... the day of the album release, I wasn't sure if it'd be insensitive or something... idk
I used the title track from this record for a category last season called “RIP” where we had to pick a song from a deceased artist. So nah it wouldn’t have been insensitive - but it also did like middle of the pack results wise so yeah lol
The Cohen track feels similar to a Blackstar track in that regard. An artist making an album about their own mortality (and absolutely crushing it).
Whomever thought of John Carpenter, good job. Also, we can't even escape Justin Vernon in this round!
