I’ve had it stuck in my head since 1996 tbf. Anytime someone says something odd to me, I respond with “how bizarre” and have to sing it.
I've gone real deep into this idea of a league for "the scene", it's going to be about 20 rounds and I think it would be really fun if the right people join, which honestly I am not sure there is enough crossover between music league and the scene (ie 2001-2010 absolutepunk, alt press, warped tour, you get it). I'm going to start it in a few weeks, post the link in here first, post a few other places on this site and let it be an open league to maybe get some randos. Honestly I could see it blowing up or not gaining traction haha, neither would surprise me.
I have 18 rounds that I am pretty set on, want to get two more to round it all out. Here's what I have so far, if anyone wants to take a lil' peek. I'll probably end up trying to name each round after an album, song or lyric if i can get creative enough Emo nite: Kick it off with the biggest, most sing-along-able song from the scene Debut: submit a song from an artist who came out of the gate swinging, from artist’s debut album or debut single. Emotional: Submit an emotional song. Not “emo” in the genre sense, but a song where you can strongly feel the emotion. Know your history: Submit a song from an artist who influenced the scene Sophomore slump or comeback of the year: submit a song from an artist’s second album that overcame the sophomore slump. Side project: Submit a song from a “side project” from an artist in the scene Underrated song / Deep cut: Submit a song from an artist that you think deserves more attention Acoustic: Submit an “acoustic” version of a song. Should have been a single: Submit a song you think should have been a single. One album: Submit a song from an artist who only released one album. Cover: Submit a cover song Relative Unknown: Submit a song from a niche artist Scream: Submit a song that incorporates screaming in any way. Outside genre sound: Submit a song from an artist in the scene which musically extends into another genre B side: Submit a song that was released by an artist, but never made it on an album or EP. Bonus tracks, b-sides, demos all allowed. Next gen: Submit a song from the “next generation” of artists who you think carry the torch the best Final album: Submit a song from an artist’s final album Reunion: Submit a song from a band who officially broke up, then later reunited. Song should be from post-reunion
not sure how i'm just discovering this thread but this seems very much something i'd like to participate in if that is even an option in the future.
if we're talking ap.net in the 2000s, then sign me up. i was literally thinking about all the time i spent on ap.net back in the day and the friends i made along the way. also, this is my first post in like three years.
Good spread of themes! I wouldn’t really have anything to add, but since you’re trying to get to 20 I’ll throw out a few maybes - since it’s sort of an AP.net inspired season, maybe something like “artist you distinctly remember discovering on AbsolutePunk” or something? We could broaden it to PureVolume/MP3.com too - a song that you had set on your myspace profile/lyrics in your AIM profile or away message - this one is a long shot because it’s kind of asking a lot (would likely have to extend the voting period), but since the scene era had so many, we could do songs with iconic music videos - an artist from a memorable concert experience - we sort of had a round like this in season 1, but for the “scene” theme it could be fun to revisit the bad songs by good artists thing. Songs that were a miss on otherwise good albums, artists that maybe stuck around too long after their prime and took a turn for the worst, filler songs/major label stink. Idk, somewhere in that realm
