Not sure I’ll be able to participate in this round. Haven’t paid attention to the local scene here in years and the one band I wanna use I can’t remember the name of for the life of me lol
Tunecore made me submit my band's album as if it were a new release, so I'm just constantly refreshing to see if it'll be up by Saturday haha
If I do get it up, it will definitely be fun to drop out of first place because everyone hates my voice specifically haha
Sorry that I have not been as active this season, friends. Been a busier than usual last 2ish months between work stuff and home renovations. Will try to make a better effort in the upcoming/next season.
I got sucked into my nephew's first birthday party on Saturday and forgot to submit an alternative when Tunecore flagged a single use of the word "fucking" in a layered/background vocal as being explicit and never/still hasn't approved/re-uploaded the album. It's a bummer to miss the last round, but I'm still excited to see what everyone else submitted.
It's still not up on streaming (lol), but here's a Bandcamp link for the song I would've submitted: This is the first song I wrote with my grad school band, and it's still the one that sounds the most like what it felt like to play live together. We self-recorded the album (most of the parts on a pretty short timeline) and it was more for fun than with any expectation of anyone actually listening, but I'm still pretty proud of how it came out and like to listen back to it every so often. None of us have lived in the same place in more than a decade at this point, but my friend Jane and I have another album that is written and hopefully ends up getting recorded someday.
Also, I can't see the write-ups for this round, but here are some brief thoughts after listening through just now: This Greg Wheeler and the Poly Mall Cops song isn't my thing for regular listening, but it's fun (and it's a great "and the" band name). There are parts of this The Zells song that remind me of Weatherbox, and there's some really cool guitar stuff here. I really like the Half Gringa song; it sounds familiar in a good way, even though I don't think I've actually heard it before. It's the sort of thing I'd be hyping all the time if it were someone I knew/local. I've definitely heard (and like!) the Hailey, It Happens song/album, either from an AP comp or just general posting. Always cool to hear something from someone here that's a few steps up production wise. This jazz song is really cool and so clean. I wish I could read the write-up for this one to know if it's someone here or just a friend/local. I think if I'd heard this Fools & Horses song around when it was released, there's a fair chance I would've gotten really into the album. Scratches a good itch. Patterns in Traffic is another I (obviously) recognize from here. I especially like the drums, and the melodies on this song are so strong. That opening part of the Tommy & The High Pilots song is so good. Lots of great guitar sounds and playing throughout. If this Little Low song had been in basically any round, I'd have given it a "hell yeah." This is right up my alley (kind of like a punkier The Color And Sound), and I'm definitely going to check out the rest of the record later. The production on this Broken Left Foot song is so good, especially the instrumental tones and how everything fits together. The AJ From The 9/Raheem Amir song is really good, too; I wouldn't have minded if the playlist had gone into another song like this one. I'm mad that I haven't been listening to this Hollywood Slasher EP for the past two years and to find that the band broke up. Was someone here in this band? This Blue Collar PA song feels like it could've been big in the scene back when it came out. It looks like the singer died in a car crash sometime around the time of this EP? Really sad. Aaron, I'm really sorry to you and to me that I don't seem to have ever clicked the link under your avatar. This song is great, definitely going to be checking out the rest of the record soon. I wish this Stay The Course song had been earlier in the playlist, but I really like it and am going to be keeping an eye out for the rest of the album in a couple months. It would've been hard to distribute points, and there's absolutely no way I would've held onto first place after this round haha
Thanks, friend there's an album thread on here if you feel like giving any feedback, but regardless, I appreciate the kind words!
Thanks for the kind words! The drums are the only instrument I don't play on my tracks, so writing and programming drum parts is usually a super tedious part of the process for me. Glad to hear they stood out in a good way!
After this season ends, I'm starting an in-deprh deep dive league for "the scene" aka absolutepunk core, but not just surface level emo night stuff. I have some great prompts picked out. I'll try to spread a wider net on this site and might make it an open league to get randos too, but anyone specifically interested in that, let's rock. Also, I'll send out an entry form for the next chorus season for prompt ideas. As always, feel free to invite fresh blood
I know I’m the last one to vote so I feel bad, but could I get a small extension to either tonight or tomorrow? Just didn’t get a chance to finish the playlist today during work.
Hell yeah king!! Congrats! Thanks to everyone who listened and had kind words about the Crooner track! There will be (and already is) follow-up music. Just waiting for the timing to be right.
Aaron almost coming back to win the entire season with his own song is a massive flex! Crooners rise up!
Looking at the scoring for this last round, I think I would've won if I'd submitted and done anything other than scoring the fewest points. That's what you get haha
