lmao, yeah, basically made in a lab for me, can't believe I hadn't heard it before. thanks a ton for sharing it! listening as I type this. perfect for the cold, overcast weather right now. it's like a mix of Alex G and DIIV and Kraus. another deserved win for @trevorshmevor , congrats king
I opened the app at some point on like Friday or something to peep the current votes and then remembered we’re out of season haha
Submit theme ideas here!! And vote on which day you want VOTES due, right now it's Tuesdays. https://forms.gle/V9VfuQkRk83uTTEx9 We'll aim to start next week
Is there any way to see themes you guys have used in past seasons? I’m guessing no, but I don’t want to be submitting ideas if you’ve already used them lol.
Dunno if there’s a quicker way in the app, but all rounds/playlists from past seasons have been logged in here Season 1 results here Season 2 results here Season 3 results here Season 4 results here Season 5 results here
I didn’t submit it as an idea on the form, but thought I’d toss it out for the broader group’s consideration. Wouldn’t have to be this season but maybe for some future season. Each round theme is just a specific year. No other rules over than to submit a song / your favorite song or whatever from that calendar year. 10 rounds could obviously cover a nice variety of decades and genres. We could even randomize to select the years. Would probably have to make it nothing earlier than say the mid 1950s , but still think it could make for a fun season.
It's an interesting idea and I like it on its face! I've found this particular group struggles a lot with rounds that request anything before like... 1985, myself included. But certainly not an idea to throw away!
it's actually really funny you mention this. I have toyed with the idea of starting a LOOOONG season the first week of next year, and each week is a year. Starting with 1956 or some shit, and going through current. It would take about a year and a half. I was thinking of opening the idea to this thread, my work league, any anyone else who would be interested
not a bad point too - that’s ~40 years to play with, could just pick 10 of those. I’m totally in for Steve’s idea too so I can just join that one along with any other diehards that wanna go that far back haha
Don’t think I’ll be able to join this time, but I wanted to say I had lot of fun during these past two seasons! Loved reading your stories behind your picks or laugh at the jokes here and there. I probably have 50+ songs saved on Spotify from acts discovered since March (time went by so fast!), so it’ll take me a while to dive into each lol
I think for our tournaments just sprinkling in a year or a decade here or there works better, maybe Steve can do that?
How about this? Take 4 decades - 80s, 90s, 00s, 10s - then take 4 genres - country, hip-hop, pop, rock - and randomly assign a genre to each decade.
Eh I once submitted 80s rap as a topic but in hindsight I don’t want you all to go digging for songs you don’t know, I want people to use this to recommend stuff they like
I think it'd be cool to do specific years, but I'd be pretty useless for almost anything pre-90s (2000s and on would obviously be my sweet spot haha). On a slightly different track, I've always thought it would be fun to do tighter themes around a specific label or scene or whatever - doing a Drive Thru or Victory Records round could be fun here, or picking a specific year from Warped Tour, etc. would probably lead to a playlist that's a little more cohesive. It's fun when there are a few curveballs in a round, but the playlists are better listening when things go together.
I would excell in Drive Thru deep cuts haha. Label specific is a good idea for sure, with the only issue being that there are likely to be a person or two who don't know labels well enough or didn't listen to that genreq
I’d be fucked if there was a round for punk labels haha. Would need to even it out and do a Stones Throw round or something. Did a Warp Records round once, that was good. Lots of varied stuff, which was surprising considering it started as a dance music label.
