I had no idea Billie was already pretty popular while her EP was out lol. I only remember hearing about her when Bad Guy dropped
I was gonna switch from the Portugal song bc it felt like everyone in here was blowing up the spot lol. My other two picks were more creative, one involving a producer (Here In Your Bedroom by Goldfinger) and one involving a person who became much more famous once she started acting (Ladies First by Queen Latifah)
So happy you all dug mood ring. Song has become an all time favorite of mine in record time and I’m glad I thought to use it
When I told my wife what the topic was for the round last week, Ocean Eyes was her first and immediate answer haha
It's the same band, they just changed their name. That's vastly different than a single member leaving and starting an entirely new project in an entirely different genre and getting credit for their previous band's work. They've got over a million and a half monthly listeners on Spotify (Julien Baker, by contrast, has a little over 300,000).
My first pick was a song from the first Steel Train EP, but to be honest, I really can't tell which songs Jack or Scott sing on from that EP because Jack was so young that he doesn't always sound like himself
I also considered Makes No Difference by Sum 41 and The Ballad of Me and My Friends by Frank Turner. The best use of music in that film is the You're the Voice scene.
The prompt for this round is worded in such a way that it confuses me. I think it’s the word “misrepresents”. So the song itself has to misrepresent the album as in , it would stick out like a sore thumb on the album? originally I was thinking it was more like - the SONG doesn’t make sense if you hear it out of context from the album. That’s not the prompt, right?
Like all these rounds, it should be up to your interpretation. When I submitted the idea, I was thinking songs that sound nothing like the rest of the album (imagine hearing a single and then being a bit shocked when you discover the album is very different), but you could also choose a song that you think is wildly better (or worse) than anything else on its respective album.
I think QL only got acting roles because she was a famous rapper. Same as Will Smith or LL. So yeah it made them more famous, but for that to happen they needed to be quite famous to begin with.
We’ve all purchased an album based off of the strength of the single only to be disappointed with the album. Or at least that’s how I interpreted this round.
Yup! Doesn’t have to be a single though - just pretend your friend sent you a song that for whatever reason - genre, tone, lyrics - didn’t really prepare you for the record.
I definitely think both work. If one song is the only good song and misrepresents the rest of the album, or if track 5 of the new Taylor Swift album is a ska track
