I THINK the first recorded version of Embraceable You, with vocals that is, is the Judy Garland version. It was definitely always a song with vocals primarily, as it was written for a musical, so I think this instrumental version doesn’t fit. So maybe use this one:

Also the original 99 Balloons is in German, and much better than the English version:

I’ll swap those out! Those were definitely the two I found most questionable as well so appreciate the input. Especially 99 Luftballons - knew the German version came first but figured I’d stick with the closest match

 

I personally think Goldfinger’s version is maybe better than Nena’s English one but Nena’s German one is better than the Goldfinger version haha

You guys can't imagine how hyped many Germans get when these songs come on. Like whenever one of them randomly comes on the radio (they still play them here occasionaly in the Netherlands) my German fiancé, no matter her mood, turns into the 'my crops are flourishing, my skin is clear, my depression n anxiety are cured' meme. Real interested in what the next round picks will be like. It’s a strange topic. I’ve had a couple of ideas but I feel like someone’s gonna come through with a really big obvious one that didn’t even cross my mind

 

I have some ideas..... I think there's a few directions to go with a lot of options

 

I haven't begun to consider what I'm submitting for the next round yet. It feels like a really niche topic and I can't really think of any examples off the top of my head, but maybe there is another interpretation I am missing. Or maybe I just have to think a little harder!

 

There are definitely a few routes to take. I’m going back forth between what I feel are two really solid options, and one wild card. But I for sure feel like I’m gonna see one when submissions are in and kick myself

 

@Patterns in Traffic I literally set an alarm to make sure and submit Torn before anyone else could lol. Seeing all of the great submissions, I thought I was crazy for doing so. Your comment validates me

 

Honestly I knew it was you because I submitted right away too and when it got kicked back I saw that you were the only person who had submitted already haha. Definitely a good move!

 

I almost almost did Torn but decided I wanted something more modern in the end

 

I believe the next round was my idea. I think I could've done a better job with the description. I meant songs written about other artists that were contemporary to the creators, such that it's possible/likely the subject listened to the song in question. No need for it to be contemporary to us. That idea tickled my brain in a fun way.

To use a made up example based on the previous round - Jeff Buckley died in 1997. If Johnny Cash wrote a song about Jeff Buckley in 1980 it would qualify, but if he wrote the song in 2000 it would not.

But ultimately we've all got our different voting criteria, so just give it a shot!

Agreed! I especially like seeing all the comments and that sort of engagement, even the leagues I am in where people are engaged, they don't really write much. Probably a lot of it has to do with us being based in this music forum, but either way, it's a winner

I was actually gonna say earlier - I switched my submission this afternoon. I think it’s pretty unlikely someone else wanted my first choice, but if anyone was unable to get a song they wanted it could be worth trying again

Maybe we take a group vote, but when all songs are submitted should I set the playlist live or wait till the deadline so people can do last minute changes if they want
