Can’t believe we got 3 Jason Schwartzman songs and left so many others on the table. I thought for sure someone would submit Jason Isbell. Plus we left off Henry Rollins, Mandy Moore, Natalie Imbruglia, Michael Jackson, Brandon Boyd, and countless more.
Also, “I’m Just Ken” doesn’t count. Sorry not sorry. That’s a song performed by an actor in their role as an actor.
I think it counts, if not only because he was in another band on the playlist, which absolutely qualifies him as a musician.
There are a LOT of candidates for this topic at face value, but I will say the scope became significantly more narrow when I resolved to only seriously consider artists that I genuinely listen to and enjoy acting performance(s) from
Like I can’t speak for the Schwartzman crowd, but these are all either/or for me, save for the two that I didn’t even know qualified
I do really like that Phantom Planet record, but their best music is without him. And Coconut Records, while nostalgic, is kinda just a slightly worse Phoenix
Full disclosure, I went with I'm Just Ken. Was on the fence until I remembered he had previously released an album as part of a musical act prior to his career really taking off. Also considered Green Day given Billie Joe has a few acting credits - notably, run on Broadway as part of the American Idiot musical.
Im pretty upset I didn’t think of Party all the Time, but I’m pretty sure someone submitted that a few leagues ago
Just did and the Janetisms are strong at times. Sounds like a spiritual successor to Jessie Ware's Devotion to my ears too. I definitely have to revisit it throughout the year, thanks for the discover!
I considered 30STM, their first two albums were pretty big for me at the time. But between Leto being a pretty widely accepted creep and them not releasing anything that's interested me in almost 20 years, I didn't feel real good about submitting them.
Maybe I was being too harsh on the pick, but it just feels like the flipside of picking any musician who also appeared in their music video. I considered Jeff Tweedy because of his cameo in Parks & Rec, but decided that didn't really count.
