Horror is a genre where I have some catching up to do. Cannibal Holocaust was one I forgot on my initial list and then wondered if it was actually good or if I was just 13 and my friends and I were just looking for fucked up stuff. I mostly remember the turtle scene.
CH is definitely an exploitive grindhouse movie with some truly fucked stuff in in it but that’s what I find endearing about it. It’s this uncompromising, raw experience that pushes many boundaries and forces you to look at these horrific images. Plus, it marks an end of an era in Italy’s dominance in horror, as the 80’s gave way to America taking over the landscape.
