Fun fact: they broke up half way through warped tour. So if you watch videos from that time, if the flags on their amps are normal, then they hadn’t decided yet and if they are upside down, they had decided it was over.
Not as fun of a fact: wars and rumors of wars was written mostly by Josh alone in a cabin after his father passed away. To me, that’s why lyrically that album hits so hard. Turned his grief into art.
Fun fact: Dan Vokey joined half way through the fiancée album cycle. He stayed in through most of the wars cycle. He was the reason they got to break their guitars so often during that era because he could build guitars. He’d spend most of the nights on tour building back their instruments. Stevis was their merch guy originally and only joined the band because during the scream the prayer tour, Dan wasn’t allowed back in the US because he was a Canadian citizen working in the US. Secondary fun fact: he is the second member of the chariot to get deported. Tony “Taco” Medina, OG guitar player was deported back to Mexico.
Fun Josh Scogin-related fact: originally Josh wanted to get Jason Martin from Starflyer 59 to do the guest part on “Memphis Will Be Laid To Waste” by Norma Jean. Starflyer 59 is one of Josh’s favorite bands
A brief list of songs or artists that Josh would play in the van regularly (these were both played with the chariot and early ‘68 tours I went on) further seems forever “Against My Better Judgement” Lana Del Ray “West Coast” Jessica lee Mayfield “Oblivious” Pedro the Lion “Almost There” Early Arcade Fire At The Drive in Norma Jean “O god” also fun fact: pretty much the only two records the whole chariot could agree on were either O God by Norma Jean or Spitfire “Self-Help”
This is making me miss The Chariot so much. I just don’t think any other band has come close to doing it like they did it. Phenomenal.
If anyone has a setlist from the final tour, I’d kill for one. I wrote them every night. I was a fool for not keeping more stuff or doing a Henry Rollins like journal
I could do it but I just don’t have the time. if anyone has any chariot stickers, I’d gladly pay. So bummed I didn’t grab more of them when I toured with them
