What an insane finale. Absolutely nothing solved (complimentary). Just imagine if they didn’t renew it.
Truly unhinged episode of TV. The Mike backstory! The vampire jump scare!! The boyfriend!!! Watched it at midnight and went to bed legitimately unsettled. Also feel like there’s a pretty good amount of actual resolution (or development in getting there), but still can’t totally figure out where the revelations of last week’s ep fit in.
Just subbing binged it last night (haven’t seen ep 8 though) it’s phenomenal. Like, Robinson’s best work to date which is saying a lot.
I love that they made us care about Mike and overlook his red flags only to harshly remind us how much of an absolutely irredeemable psychopath he is. Also when the baby Huey guy removed his Jason mask, I looked at my wife and said “they’re doing this with 4 minutes left of the season.” Lmao. As wtf as the episode was, we did learn more about who is involved, that there is not going to ever be one neat conspiracy, and that the show is more about Ron’s compulsions and flaws dragging him deeper into the weirdest corners of his reality than him going deeper into a specific mystery/case.
The second to last episode ending with a neat conspiracy uncovered and fully explained and Ron earning his wife’s admiration and respect was such a wonderful fakeout too. I knew it was fake since there was one episode left and it’s a common trope to have one last fake opportunity to refuse the call to adventure but I didn’t know the finale would be this bananas and undo the closure and so much of what we thought we knew about everything.
