Thought this was really good with my only gripe being the first half noticeably better or maybe more interesting aside from the marble scenes.
Started listening to that Big Picture podcast on the drive home and the “it’s an allegory for the making of the movie itself” unlocks it for me
Yeah my very simplified reading was that it’s about a director getting a movie financed and sneaking in more personal themes that the backers weren’t expecting. However, there’s more there than just being a movie about making movies
Cannot tell you how pleasurable the intermission made this for me. Put those in every film, I don’t care if it’s 90 minutes. A little break to go get a hot dog is so nice in the middle of a film rather than the beginning. The movie was good too
Got out of it a while ago. 10/10, no notes. Seeing a lot folks not digging how dark the second half gets but I think it’s duality worked pretty nicely.
Also the bad press that came out yesterday for the AI use (though minuscule, it seems) is pretty wild. Brody’s performance is exceptional and folks online trying to disqualify him because of minor accent enhancements is a bit upsetting to see
Did not know the director of this used to be an actor and was one of the psychos in Funny Games, that’s so good lol
