"slop" seems to just be a meaningless term now huh? I reserve that for AI auto-nonsense and algorithm fodder. this is neither.

 

People got mad at me for using "trash" a couple weeks ago so I thought I'd mix it up. I don't mean AI.

 

I wasn't going after you specifically, the meaning creep of that term has just been bothering me.

I will say, having also seen Cats in its first run at the movies, if you're expecting a WTF laugh riot of that nature, this isn't that either.

I will concede to the haters that it's too long and I'm not sure Jessie Buckley was the best possible casting. I did see Julianne Hough was originally attached, which has me wondering if it was formerly MORE dance routine-centric.

 

Those people are boring, lol.

Not to get into bad movie semantics, but to me, “slop” tends to mean bland. Like, anything from AI to low level assembly line MCU material. I’m a big fan of words like “trash” for things that, like, take big swings or are actively baffling or whatever.

 

Also, Josh’s posting in here, with peace and love, definitely fit into what I called “comically indignant.” And I would have advised him against seeing this. Neither extreme it could’ve landed in would’ve had any chance of being a thing he would enjoy engaging with, lol.

 

Then I revise my og post to be “trash”. Give me trash!

Have you wuthered them heights yet? I was clearly in the “no interest in anything but the soundtrack” camp, but I’ve recently wondered if I’d have fun with the mess.

Wuthering Heights was mostly just boring.

 

I loooved Jessie Buckley in this, she's so much fun. Between this and Hamnet she's having a real strong year for me.

 

the ending of Promising Young Woman betrayed any sort of trust or goodwill Emerald Fennell would have had, i've yet to see either of the films she's done since.

and yet i loved The Bride! which goes to show i won't automatically check out/like/recommend a divisive film just because a woman directed it.

 

I’ve kinda assumed it’d just be boring and annoying, but a few responses here and there have made me wonder if it’d be messy bitches being messy and sexy in an entertaining way.

Still in no hurry to give it a go, though, lol. Maybe it’ll be on Tubi someday.

knowing in advance there was a 99.999% chance this was going to flop was the #1 reason I made sure to see it in IMAX for extra novelty points
