Ending was fine. Wasn't great, but pretty much ending i was expecting. Except the Ill suck your dick line. Bahahahaha
It's crazy to see people online melting down over the finale. I thought it was fine, very predictable and ended it the only way it should have. Butcher ending Homelander and Hughie killing Butcher was the right way to end it. I see people talking about how it was rushed, how some characters didn't have any impact at the end (Sage, Soldier Boy, Gen V folks...) but I didn't even notice it, maybe I'm nit obsessive enough to nitpick every small detail.
I don’t think anyone is melting down but everyone I know that’s enjoyed this show at all has been disappointed with this last season.
so much time wasted on vaught rising setup this season. I'm not upset with the end of some character arcs, I think the way we got there was rushed so they could spend half the season setting up soldier boy for the prequel. I wish homelander had more time begging for his life and living with his mediocrity, which is something he hated (and feared) the whole series. It was also very unsatisfactory having vaught just going back to how they were at the beginning of the series, what was the point of that? the US government and the rest of the world is just gonna let them rebuild after their top product killed the president and declared themself god lol?? Probably should have just killed homelander and ended it in S3. S4 and S5 were noticeably worse.
I realized at some point this season that I was really just watching for a handful of strong performances. The writing took a nosedive some time ago. So much needless shit this season in particular. Also, I'm a few episodes late on this but: as a rule, if you are a listed producer on a TV show, your cameo is automatically not funny.
Finale was pretty great for me, I never really watched Gen V and don't know what Vought Rising is so maybe that helped. Butcher was such a great character, watching Karl Urban play him was never not fun. Same goes for Anthony Starr/Homelander, great until the last minute. Deep was also always hilarious to the very end. That said... Gotta agree things were rushed and we got too many filler episodes this season. There was enough story in the finale to cover it over 2-3 eps.
I actually really enjoyed this season. My only complaint is the lack of Gen V integration. Flogging Molly on the outro was dope too lol
So many things were frustrating but I think the entire soldier boy arc is the biggest stain on the season. Him giving the v1 to homelander was so stupid, sage’s “I didn’t know about love” was even dumber, and then it not even mattering and being reversed so easily was just like ok why did I watch any of this.
It was always going to be satisfying seeing Homelander finally get killed, but yeah everything else about this was quite lame. Even the underlying method is just annoying, like they just do a successful run of the same exact thing they tried in season 3? Very weird The Deep’s storyline also could have gone in an interesting angle where they actually delve into how much of a Stockholm syndrome victim he basically turned into. Instead he just remains and dies a pathetic villain
My most returned-to thought/feeling all season was just how cheap, rinky-dink, unconvincing pretty much everything was. They did a fine job setting up the new fascist normal with our heroes in an internment camp, but nothing that followed really had the oppressive, dark atmosphere required to communicate how fucked up and dangerous life would be under President Homelander. Lots of characters getting out of scrapes easily, wandering around allegedly dangerous locations never being spotted despite Starlight being the most hated person in America (I'd, idk, dye my hair at least?) Many scenes and subplots that seemed to be written solely to keep the budget down (one obvious example being the Deep spending an entire episode alone at a beach house on Lake Ontario). I will say that the "the Bad President is dead/out of office now, we can all go have brunch even though nothing has structurally changed and we're still the country that produced him" ending vibe was at least true to how Americans behave, if dramatically unsatisfying.
This is definitely one of those endings where it's best not to think too much about things, like how convenient it was for Starlight to take Deep out by water, even though as far as she knew it was absolutely the worst place to fight him. The budgetary constraints throughout the season really hurt at points. Every scene doesn't need to be a massive set piece full of extras, but so much of it was just the main actors in little teeny sets. Maybe getting Piano Man took most of the budget. The writing was also not great, but that's been the case for a few seasons. That said, I'm fine with how it ended. One of the best parts of the comic ending is Noir actually being a Homelander clone, but that ship had obviously sailed for the show.
this is going to be the new internet meme like "i dun want it" or "so and so kinda forgot about X" from GOTs ending haha
Ending was fine I guess. It’s hard to get excited about a show when the people making it have so clearly lost interest and don’t care anymore.
I liked the season as a whole and enjoyed the ending. My only nitpick is the lack of Gen V after everything we were told lol. BUT HEY IT APPEARS V RISING IS MULTIPLE TIMELINES SO ITS NOT JUST A PREQUEL Since Kripke has already said expect to see Gen V elsewhere in other projects, I can only hope that we're also getting a post-S5 timeline set in the current day and we see familiar faces.
Cannot over state how much I don’t care about gen v. Stop making shit where I have to watch multiple shows to keep up.
