Oh, fuck yes! Guessing it's "Power." Hopefully they can find time for it in the set on Saturday at Riot (assuming they can do 2-3 before or after the album) because it would be nice to see that one after hearing it a few times so I can sing along. Haha. Stoked about seeing them at Riot on Saturday but a smidge bummed I'm missing them here in Boston because I'll be in Chicago tomorrow night. Not complaining, just y'know...
I had a period of being way into the souls - like, Anchors Aweigh era up until Ghosts on the Boardwalk. Local guys, my good friend was the only employee of their "label" for a while, but I just can't stand them anymore. Every year they don't book someone I need to see at the summer show is a year I'm excited as hell. But I think my anger comes from Pete recording my old band's second and last EP and totally ruining the sounds, spending no time on it, and charging us way more than the friends rate he said he would. We got closer to the sound of the band recording drums in a rehearsal room and doing the rest at home, he made it sound like bad pop punk instead of noisy gothy screamo. That eventually broke up the band after we played one show with Old Grey at the original Asbury Lanes (RIP the greatest place on earth) and the whole crowd besides maybe 3 people just stared at us confused. I guess this being 2014 maybe we were a little early, but yeah, fuck Pete.
Hell yeah, I'm going to assume that maybe this one won't be apart of the upcoming album? But we'll see
Probably not. But who knows… But I’m sure it’ll be another 7-inch along with a holiday merch drop. My heart is ready! But is my wallet?
Song is perfect given the intent. I was hoping for something a little more "pop-punk" adjacent but... This is gonna hit perfectly in about a week. Now I'm amped and hoping there's a physical copy and some other goodies even more than I already was. LOL
Pete was real great on the ep of Chris DeMakes A Podcast he did a couple weeks back. But also: He mentioned that Less Than Jake would be on Stoked for the Summer this year! Whole podcast pasted below but had it start right where Pete mentioned the SFTS thing. Haha.
It's a top 15 Souls track for me! Maybe even top 10... The songs on the album are all awesome. But I think it suffers a bit from the disjointed recording sessions as far as flow goes. Especially coming off of Anchors Aweigh and The Gold Record. I say that as I'm like, "Y'know, been a while since I've listened to it from start to finish. I'm gonna do that tonight." LOL
Seeing them tonight for the first time since 2001 when they played with Pennywise and Lagwagon, 6 months after they supported Green Day here on the Warning tour. Summer Vacation is my most listened to pop punk/adjacent album outside of Green Day & Fall Out Boy so pretty psyched for this, especially hearing Gone live.
To be honest all I remember is one of them having a cool bass outro and either that one or the other having lyrics about staying positive in current times.
21 years ago today... The Bouncing Souls headlined my college radio station's spring concert! Just got the alert from concert archives and it still blows my mind that it happened. Hah. I remember emailing their booking agent outright telling them how much money we had and asking if the Bouncing Souls and/or the Explosion would be available. "Actually, they both are and that's more than enough!" LOL So got two bands with one email and then the Souls added the Loved Ones and Let It Burn themselves. At the time, I only knew the one song by the Loved Ones ("Jane") that was on a comp but had been loving it. Had no idea Dave Hause would wind up being one of my favorite songwriters ever. Anyway. It was such a cool night. Whenever I'm reminded of it I always have to take a beat and process because all these years later that band is still such a huge part of my life.
