It's a podcast for Modern Vinyl! You can find it here: Missaligned ‹ Modern Vinyl Also, have now added links to my about section, so thanks for the reminder to do that!
Hmm. We've had a bunch of different hosting situations already so it's hard to say, but I did chat with Jason Tate and that is probably a good one to go with since we're on Chorus hah.
Kirsten Dunst To Direct Sylvia Plath’s ‘The Bell Jar’ Starring Dakota Fanning | Deadline Hopefully we finally get this, I know Julia Stiles was supposed to star at some point
Virgin Suicides is so morbidly beautiful. Ugh. I hate that I can't write like this. Mr. Pulff, who left shortly thereafter to pursue a job in advertising, recalled a few of Mrs. Woodhouse's words that day. " 'Grief is natural,' she said. 'Overcoming it is a matter of choice.' I remember it because I used it later for a diet product: 'Eating is natural. Gaining weight is your choice.' Maybe you saw it."
I remember noting it is (or at least some sections are) written in the first person of plural, which I love.
I read a collection of stories from Stephen King, Dan Simmons, and George RR Martin which are like 3 of my favorite authors, kinda can't believe it existed and I hadn't heard about it before. Anyway, 2 of the King stories were collected in Nightmares and Dreamscapes so I'd read those before but Reploid was super great and hilarious. The three Dan Simmons were also all really good. But holy shit, Skin Trade, Martin's novella and also the name of the collection, was fucking amazing. Between that and Fevre Dream I'm sort of getting angry ASOIAF exists and Martin didn't just stick with horror. (not really, but I hope he gets back to it, but you know, finish T-Wow)
Just finished The Basketball Diaries. Ordered a few Richard Price books that are slowly trickling in. Either reading Clockers or The Breaks next
I'm finishing up East of West volumes 4 and 5. Just got I'm Thinking of Ending Things, Between the World and Me, and Go Tell it on the Mountain (which I've been wanting to read forever and finally picked up).
Same here. I'm trying to work my way backwards through his bibliography but everytime time I gain headway he comes out with something new
Slowly working through Jensen Karp's memoir 'Kanye West Owes Me $300' for a fun read, finally starting the GoT series next.
I think Ive read everything outside of Zeitoun. Hologram and Fathers are perfect imo and deeply moved me while being considered slight by some. Circle felt overly paranoid but entirely engaging and I still loved it even if it was a little more pulpy. Heroes of the Frontier seems like it will be a return to form from my quick start this evening.
I've only read a Heartbreaking Work and enjoyed it, but I can really appreciate McSweeney's The Instructions by Adam Levin is mindblowing
Just finished book one of C.S. Lewis's Space Trilogy, Out of the Silent Planet. Now reading the second, Perelandra. Also currently reading All-Star Superman.
Yesterday I finished American Heiress by Jeffrey Toobin which is now out today. Interesting read if anyone is interested in Patty Hearst and/or cult type followings similar to Manson (but less brutal).
I just finished reading Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Although it started out okay and promising enough, it only devolved for me as it went along. It also felt like a sitcom or a one-shot comic book with how nothing really changed discounting slight-ish evolutions in some relationships. Instead of being a nice addendum to the series, it felt more like a rotten cherry atop a tasty cake.
About halfway through Scott Snyder's Voodoo Heart and I'm enjoying it a lot. His prose is good for the most part, but sometimes his characters take like weird emotional turns As a basis for conflict within his stories. They're enjoyable though and worth checking out if you like his comic book writing and are curious at all about his prose.
