Only thing I've read has been Earthsea. Take it there's a more scifi approach to other books? I haven't actually read Dune yet. Only thing putting me off was the amount of books. Could always give the first one a shot and see if it's worth it
honestly I only read the first 2. You could just read the first one and be good, but I think the first 3 are kind of a trilogy
At most you only need to read the original six Dune books. You could just read the first and be completely satisfied, go to the next two if you want to round out a rough trilogy. I love God Emperor (the fourth) but it’s where things get especially weird and that and the final two books are a crazy ride. Don’t bother with anything not written by Frank.
yeh she tends to mix the sci fi with like fantasy or magical realism to great effect edit:based on short stories primarily, still really early into this book to tell for sure
From what I understand while he doesn't write them he does do an outline and rough ideas and gives input on story beats and such
which would be fine if whoever did the actual writing got credit for it. like a co writing thing or something
I do like Le Guin so i'll check them out. I'm pretty sure I have Left Hand Of Darkness somewhere waiting to be read.
I'm on mobile so can't post pics but go to this link Books And start scrolling. Every book that he actually has a hand in had a co-writer credit except for Alex Cross (which supposedly he writes solo). Granted, JP is top billing but still I feel like everyone's still getting proper credit.
I see it, thanks. I missed it happening bc a lot of them are at the bottom I guess. arguably it should be equal billing though, so there's still beef :)
Thanks for the heads up! I haven’t really researched any of his in depth but I’m always so overwhelmed by the amount of material his name is slapped on haha. Which ones would you say are worth reading?
I'm about to finish book 2 and I think it's even better than The Three-Body Problem, not to take anything away from that book though because I love it as well. Book 2 just has an interesting premise to it and really moves the storyline forward.
Man, I just want to reread Dune now (I say to myself as I attempt to simultaneously juggle two 10k+ page fantasy series)
Fair enough, I definitely feel that but understand it though. I really really enjoyed Roses Are Red and Murder Games. Murder Games is a standalone so I'd say that one. It's been renamed Instinct to coincide with the TV series coming out in a few weeks.
Looks like "Lovecraft Country" by Matt Ruff is being developed by HBO. I haven't read the book but I've had it on "my list" for a while. Yann Demange Joins Jordan Peele, J.J. Abrams for HBO's 'Lovecraft Country'
Read this a few weeks ago! It was fun, pulpy, gothic sci-fi/fantasy. I didn't know it was becoming a series or that Jordan Peele was attached to it. Based on the premise and Get Out, I have high hopes!
I was in such a rut and haven't felt like reading in a couple months, love when a good book can turn that around though. Ripped through all of Homesick for Another World yesterday and it totally re-invigorated me, just started in on Lincoln in the Bardo this morning.
Ended up reading all of Lincoln in the Bardo yesterday and have been in a bit of a daze ever since. The most humane and important novel I've read in some time, can't recommend it enough.
