I've made it a habit of checking them every morning for the ones that are gonna end soon and I'll probably find 5-10 of those that seem interesting to me. So roughly 25-50 a week?
Sounds like things are progressing at Fox for a "The Passage" trilogy (Justin Cronin) adaptation. ‘The Passage’ Fox Vampire Drama Pilot Gets Backup Script Order
I've been working my way through 2666. It's pretty dense and I worry that a lot of it is woefully beyond my comprehension, but I'm completely immersed in its world. Just started The Part About the Crimes and the parts about the ice cream vendor and the sexton were thoroughly chilling.
New Murakami short story collection out today! I almost never buy new releases on release day (prefer paperback and cheaper) but couldn't pass up new Murakami.
How do you folks have your books organized? I used to just do by title A-Z or author last name A-Z (but keeping series together) but after I move I'm gonna organize as: - Books that appeared / mentioned in LOST (aside from series) - cartoon / comics (Dilbert, Calvin & Hobbes, The Walking Dead) - Encyclopedias / nature - Presidential biographies - all other biographies Authors: - Don DeLillo - Hemingway - King (aside from Dark Tower) - Franzen - David Mitchell - Murakami - Pynchon - Steinbeck Series: - A Song of Ice and Fire - The Border Trilogy - The Dark Tower - Dune - The Familiar - Goosebumps - Harry Potter - His Dark Materials - The Lord of the Rings - MaddAddam - Stormlight Archive - The Wheel of Time (Any I may be missing) The rest of my books (300 or so)
I have sections for types of books (classic fiction, new fiction, tolkien, inspirational, non-fiction/bio/autobio), with books alphabetical by author, then chronological by original publishing date.
Who are the best short story writers around now? Or in general, I guess. I've found myself mostly drawn to those lately, probably since I rarely have time to sit down and read a I'll novel
So I took this thread's advice and signed up for a bunch of Goodreads contests and totally won the first volume of Superwoman, so that's pretty cool.
Read Nightmares! by Jason Segel (and Kirsten Miller) this week and absolutely loved it. Highly recommended for fans of Percy Jackson. @Garrett L. I know you're a fan.
Working on that 2017 book challenge that was posted in here a while back. I've always been a bit lax with reading, but I'm digging in as hard as I can. Must have read at least a dozen books so far this year, which is way more than I'd usually manage to get through by this point. The last month or so I've managed at least a book a week which is a good pace for me. Currently reading The Hobbit. It's been sat on my shelf for over a decade and I've never got round to it, but I figured I should clear up some of the things that have been sat on the bookcase before I buy too many more. (I've still bought quite a lot of books recently )
I've tried to get through The Hobbit multiple times and I just couldn't read anymore about a Hobbit's hairy foot
Haha. I finished it today. It was a weird one, on the one hand I would say I really enjoyed it, but simultaneously found it a bit of a chore to get through. Like I would randomly zone out in the middle of a sentence and then not know where I was when I looked back. I'm never that inattentive with books.
Yeah it's been a while but I remember the Hobbit sort of dragging a bit, especially after Smaug shows up.
That's Tolkien for you. I love LOTR but it drags in a lot of places and took a long time to get through But I love it
I'm gonna start Tranny by Laura Jane Grace after I finish the Nailbiter series. Going through it seems like it's gonna take me a while, seems very meaty and heavy
