Finished Masters of Atlantis the other day. Funny enough at times but never really goes anywhere or does anything interesting outside of the first few chapters.
I tried Moby Dick again (might be my third time?) and got about 100 pages in this time before jumping ship—pun intended. That thing everyone loves about it eludes me and I’m just not compelled.
Yeah I’ve tried it multiple times too. I always thought I’d appreciate it when I’m older and now I’m old as dirt and it’s still not for me.
I can get through books like that by listening to the audiobook. I love Dracula for example but I probably wouldn’t have made it through by actually reading it.
Moby Dick is one of my favorite books. The only advice I can offer is avoid taking it too seriously, especially in the beginning. I think it’s been put on a pedestal and made into this overly epic, symbolic work, but really at the end of the day, it’s just an adventure story. And it’s really, really funny too
I recognized early on it was probably better to view it as a comedy, and I still just could not get into it. Some great vocabulary, obviously, but I get that elsewhere.
currently reading less than zero after ripping through the shards and the rules of attraction last month.
It’s on my shelf. I read his other one, Our Lady of the Flowers, and didn’t love it—hoping I’ll enjoy this one more when I get to it
Read less than zero years ago and didn’t like it. Really enjoyed it this time but enjoyed the shards more. Great book.
