My wife read it and wasn’t big on it but I plan to read it this year. Hopefully I will align more with your thoughts.
Finally read The Only Good Indians during a couple flights and knew almost nothing about the plot going in. What a wild ride that was!
man not to be annoying but The Martian movie was nowhere near as good as the book. Like, not even close. Some head scratching changes they made there. Like, I get some of the stuff they cut for length purposes but other things make no sense. Still a good movie, just not a great adaptation. That's often the case with these book/film situations.
I will say the mystery genre isn't one I usually delve into so I'm not sure how it holds up compared to other whodunnit type books, but I loved that it centered around elderly folks and that they were so British lol. Like hey so someone is dead would anyone fancy a cup of tea? Love it lol
Then do I have a series for you!!! The Marlow Murder Club (Marlow Murder Club, #1) This series is so fun

Just placed a hold on the last in the series of Darcy Coates' Gravekeeper series, The Vengeful Dead. It's a cute cozy easy read series so I'll be sad when it's over. I mean this with no rudeness at all but it's accessible enough that it gives me the "huh, I could be a writer" feeling. Like in a good way. Not in an insulting way lol, although I did spot a few typos throughout but that may be more of an editing problem I was always a good writer but never had any interesting ideas to write about. It's my blessing and my curse
Omg I should've become a ghost writer. I wonder how one gets into that. I could ghost write celeb memoirs! Just hang with me for a few days and tell me ur life story and then I got u
My mum sometimes writes testimonials for older members at her church, She goes over to their house and they tell her their life story and then she writes it up for them.
Trying to get back into Horror. Tried The Haar by Dave Sodergren which was recced by a friend and I absolutely hated it. Any good recommendations that would scratch the itch?
I read all of these this year and really enjoyed them. May not be exactly what you’re looking for but they were nice quick reads: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C82YLCBY/?tag=absolutepunk-20
Very recognisable lol I think a lot of “message board kids” are good writers with nothing to write about
Enjoy, I would definitely recommend all of them! let me know what you think of them if you actually end up reading them.
Stiff by Mary Roach finally came off hold so I'm gonna start that soon I've been reading A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness because I'd like to gift it to my nephew at some point in his life because his dad just died of cancer and omg it's amazing so far I feel like I'm reading it slow just to savor it. The illustrations are wild and im glad I held out until I found the illustrated copy
I got a Boox Palma 2 to supplement my Kindle as I’ve been wanting something more portable for when I’m not wearing a coat with a pocket large enough to fit it, and so far I’m loving the device and the form factor. I am finding it way more responsive than I expected, too. Being able to install my read it later app is also extremely welcome. Thing should not be as expensive as it is but so far that is my only complaint.
I just finished Bambi, the book the Disney cartoon was based on. A sometimes funny (at least if you know Austrian/Viennese culture), often disturbing anti-war novel.
Thomas Pynchon announces Shadow Ticket, his first novel in more than a decade New Pynchon in October.
