Suzanne Collins is releasing a new 'Hunger Games' novel, 'Sunrise on the Reaping,' next year Haymitch's!
I'm in a book rut. Idk what to read. Rn I have 3 books checked out and they're okay but I'm not like waiting eagerly to get back to them every day. I have a hold on Death in Yellowstone and Yellowface but they won't be available for a while Edit: didn't realize until I typed them out that they both have yellow in the title. Huh.
Usually nonfiction but not exclusively. I'll kinda go down different rabbit holes. I was in a WWII one and then it morphed to like runaway slaves and historical fiction about slavery from black authors and then somehow I got on Mt Everest and national park deaths lol. But I'm fairly open minded
I’m not sure if you’ve ever read Kitchen Confidential by Anthony Bourdain but for some reason that just popped into my head to recommend you. It’s one of my favorites of all time. Last year, the most interesting nonfiction thing I read was a book about the late night war between Conan and Leno. It’s an older book from 2010, but it was awesome if you’re into entertainment stuff. It’s called The War For Late Night by Bill Carter.
Ooh those both sound interesting, especially the second one cause I am a sucker for pop culture stuff and I only know tangentially what happened there I did just start Crying in H Mart finally and have read half of it in one day. I'm bad at reading my physical books even tho I prefer them to Libby. But many of them don't fit in my purse so it's less convenient. So the book has been sitting on a shelf for a while. Anyway, it's stirring a lot of emotions. I'm not Korean and am the whitest looking person on the planet but I'm relating so hard as a mixed woman growing up in Oregon trying to navigate identity. And even tho I wasn't with my grandma when she passed because of covid, I relate so much to that grief of losing connection and culture because my grandma was kind of my only solid link to my Mexican side, as she had chose to assimilate so my dad is only able to pass down the snippets that stuck. Am feeling all the feels
I inhaled The Buried Giant by Kazuo Ishiguro in just a couple days recently, and I really loved it. A bit of a curveball from him since fantasy isn't really his usual thing but its themes about memory, history, war, the stories we tell ourselves about our past, etc. really felt resonant to me lately.
I just finished The Ministry of Time by Kaliane Bradley. Meh. I think I was confused what the book was actually about. It is more of a love story and I’m not sure it was that good. But it was interesting enough that I didn’t hate it. I just expected more.
I'm listening to the audiobook of The Stand and having trouble getting into it. Like 16 chapters in and I know who Frannie is and Larry but the rest is a blur. Not sure if it's the audio and I should read instead, or just keep listening.
There’s some books on my TBR list that I told myself I wouldn’t do on audiobook and most of them are very long. The Stand, IT, Under the Dome, Lonesome Dove, etc. I feel like if I drift off or lose focus, I miss things and the I have to go back and get frustrated.
Been in a weird reading place this year. Haven’t really wanted to read any thrillers and struggling to find horror books I wanna stick with. The highlights have been the Beartown trilogy and GOT books for me. Since it’s summer I’m in a slasher mood
Same. I don’t know if it was the first book to make me cry, but it’s certainly the one that made me cry the most. I hadn’t thought about it in years before I saw it today.
I read the first 4 and took a breather just to prepare myself for the unfortunate 5th and “last” book lol Kinda wanna read the Duncan & Egg stories too to prepare for the eventually HBO series
