I regret doing Don’t Fear the Reaper on audiobook. The constantly changing POVs had me so confused at times. I really enjoyed it though. Gonna dive right into Angel of Indian Lake.
I even struggled with it a bit in the physical book sometimes. ended up loving it though, you come out with so much more appreciation for some much more rounded characters than they seemed just from Jade's perspective. the chapter near the end with the police chief had me sobbing
Oh yeah, totally. I’m also happy I waited to do all three in a row. As one complete story, it seems to be way more enjoyable. SGJ really nailed this from a character development standpoint.
Have we tried to start a little monthly book club in here before? I remember back in the AP days we had one briefly. It would be cool if we could get a poll together each month with some suggestions and all read the same thing.
The one we did on AP for Blood Meridian was really fun. Unfortunately I just don't have enough reading time anymore to participate.
No one buys books Not sure where to put this, but this is a fascinating behind the curtain look at the publishing industry. tl;dr - shit's bad.
The Watchers by A.M. Shine is a really fun, creepy page-turner. Only 310 pages if someone is looking for a quick thrill ride! Can’t wait for the movie in June
The Only Good Indians is probably a good introduction since it’s fairly recent and I think a great representation of his style.
Co-co-signing on The Only Good Indians. Especially if you’re into supernatural horror. My Heart Is A Chainsaw if you’re into slashers and the horror movie genre as a whole.
Yep. It was great. I liked it a lot more than Don’t Fear the Reaper and just a tad less than Chainsaw.
I'm almost done with My Heart is a Chainsaw and it's my first SGJ. I am absolutely loving it but also, all of the slasher/horror references land so well and make me so giddy through and through.
so much SGJ love in this thread recently, I'm so here for it lol now if Angel could goddamn release in Australia already that'd be great
It took me literally a month to get through Holly. Even the author’s note at the end couldn’t save it for me. Cool idea and good attempt but it just didn’t land.
Yeah same, I’m still not sure I quite understand the author’s note and why it HAD to be set during that time frame
I've only read 5 King books. Definitely would like to get to some more of them but I have 0 interest in Holly lol. The upcoming short story collection sounds pretty cool though
Even if it were set in that time, fine… but no one I know in 2021 was acting like that. The bumping elbows and vaccine criticism. Yeah, maybe on the internet. But just so much of the dialogue being centered around Covid seemed borderline propaganda.
I did start IT a couple years ago. I got a little over 100 pages in. Just haven't gone back yet for some reason
