I'm absolutely loving Don't Fear the Reaper 100 pages in. love how it just immediately throws you into the action and the almost real-time pacing of it is like, claustrophobic almost? unless it really falls off this will top the prequel for me
Always been kind of frustrating that that's the Salinger that everyone reads. I think everything else he wrote is quite a bit better.
I've heard this before (I do enjoy Catcher, or at the very least appreciate its legacy). Still haven't given Franny and Zooey a shot but it's on my shelf.
Franny and Zooey is great, but I think Seymour, An Introduction is my favorite. Nine Stories is phenomenal too.
I admittedly never read really anything in high school or college (spark notes BBY!) so I’m playing catch (no pun intended) up. I feel a lot of sympathy for Holden. He for sure is annoying but in the way that I would imagine a lot of 17 year olds are. The end of the book made me appreciate his character a lot more.
Games: Star Ocean 2, Super Mario RPG Books: Harpist in the Wind, Hunger of the Gods, Fourth Wing FW has been laughably bad but I'm committed
I got about 150 pages in and moved on to something else. It was actually not bad but I also have to really be in the mood for something like that. I think it’s something I’ll return to when the mood strikes me.
I'm about 75% done and I can't get past how bad the dialogue is. They talk like it's 2012 in a fantasy novel lol
I kind of like that about it though. I mean the actual dialogue could have more depth. It’s kinda paint by numbers in a lot of spots. But it’s easier to read, for me at least, without all the “sayeth, thou, ye olde” type of speech. The way I’ve been describing the book to people is that it’s like the bastard child of Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, Hunger Games with a dash of erotica thrown in. Fills the gap between YA and actual fantasy for a casual reader. And I don’t mean any of that as an insult. I’m only about 60% of the way through, it’s not as good as all the hype I heard but it’s been enjoyable so far. I haven’t wanted to give up on it like I do so many other things I start but I also don’t prioritize picking it up over other forms of entertainment
idk I haven't read any fantasy that actually speaks in thees and thous, I don't think that's a thing outside of maybe a character within a story. it's stuff in this book like "I owned that test" and "more like volun-told" and "so freaking hot" and "for the win" that absolutely take me out of an already milquetoast story. just a super weird choice. but yeah, this book is a nostalgia quilt. there's not a single original idea and it's all pulled from a bunch of other influences that do it better, which I think is why it's such an appealing read to so many.
The Chronicles of Narnia Complete Audio Collection Anyone know if this version is good or not? I’ve never read the series but wife and I are going to try and read it next year and I thought this might be a cool extra to listen to after reading it.
My wife and I started a Christmas tradition this year where we will get each other books, but not give a list. Meaning just go to store and find one the other might like. She did so well and got me 3: Looking Glass Sound - Catriona Ward The September House - Carissa Orlando And what impressed me is she also found a book I’ve never heard of by an author I didn’t know! The Vein - Steph Nelson
