    Sellout was really great.

On a similar note-I’m currently reading Where Are Your Boys Tonight?

  2. How are you liking it? It’s on my list but I have been in the mood for fiction lately so I haven’t gotten around to it.

I’m guessing you mean non-fiction? Since both of these are nonfiction? Hahaha

Either way it’s really good so far! Kinda messy a bit with all the various people/voices but it really brings back a lot of memories and specific nostalgia if you were well tuned into the scene in the early to mid 2000’s.

  4. Haha no I meant that I’ve been reading only fiction lately so I haven’t really felt like picking it up. I’m glad to hear that though because I’m waiting for my next nostalgia kick and then I’ll be compelled to pick it up.

I just finished this one too! Kept seeing the name pop up on TikTok and this was the only book available right away on Libby by the author. Could not agree more with how dumb it was lol. I didn’t hate it but I also didn’t like it

I’ve read all the Riley Sager books and Survive The Night was by far his worst. Now none of them are great necessarily but they are all mostly fun. If you want another of his I would check out Home Before Dark.

I’m interested in checking out more. It was a quick, mostly fun read until it got to the end

Reading Rules of Prey now. So far so good for some dad cop trash fiction. The Neon Rain was also decent, I think I liked it better. Might jump back into that series after this.
Also did The Burnt Orange Heresy and liked it enough, but it’s nowhere near my favorite Willeford.

Just read the dinner by Herman Koch - don’t think I’ve ever read a book where I thoroughly disliked every character.

Not sure how to feel about it - pretty grimy book

Wrapping up John Adams: A Life in my slow march through presidential biographies. Very good read. Probably will take a break before diving into Jefferson, which is a daunting task.

oh hell yeah forgot there was a John Adams show on HBO

  15. I read Night of the Mannequins and The Only Good Indians back to back. Stephen Graham Jones writes the fuck out of a story. His style threw me off at first but once I got into it, it blew me away. I loved the slow buildups to the violent crescendos.

I started Certain Dark Things by Silvia Moreno Garcia and I'm enjoying it so far. Figured it's the right time of the year for a vampire story and I loved Mexican Gothic

  17. I have four things on my list for October aka spooky szn…

-Halloween Party (or A Haunting in Venice) by Agatha Christie (I wanted something that was a little bit of a throwback and I haven’t read Christie in awhile)
-All Hallows by Christopher Golden (recommended by Stephen Graham Jones)
-The Exorcist by William Peter Blatty (I mean duh)
-Books of Blood (Vol. 1, 2, and 3) by Clive Barker (I won’t finish this by the end of the month but I want to dive into some of the stories I heard were great)

After a 2-month rut I’m back in the swing of things.

So far this month I’ve read
The Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro
    Starter Villain by John Scalzi

and started The Times: How the Newspaper of Record Survived Scandal, Scorn, and the Transformation of Journalism by Adam Nagourney tonight.

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

got a couple vouchers I forgot about expiring soon so you folks have any recs for books from this year? always down for horror or great short story collections especially

  21. Maybe The Houseguest by Amparo Dávila? Gothic, scary, and sadly real-feeling stories.

Reading The Shards by Bret Easton Ellis. Pretty early on but there were some scenes that really spooked me.

My poetry book came out today!!! This collection means a great deal to me.

I know everyones' minds are elsewhere and social media is a mess (both reasonably so). With that said, I'd still greatly appreciate if you could show support and/or spread the word. If you'd like a copy, you can order one at the link below. If you're willing to go above and beyond, liking and sharing my posts about it on IG/Twitter would be absolutely lovely (my handle is @jonathankoven).

You ever read All Hallows? Just finished it and enjoyed my time with it!

Some of the reviews on Goodreads were pretty harsh but this is literally the exact “Halloween” craving I was seeking. It’s just littered with Halloween nostalgia. It has its flaws and the character list might be a little extensive to keep track of everyone, but it checks off the boxes I needed it to. Gave me a lil' of the same vibes as the movie Trick R' Treat.
