I’m reading Between Two Fires by Christopher Buehlman and all I can say is where the heck did this author come from?!
The Blacktongue Thief is a brilliant book if you’re enjoying that. Different story (not medieval horror) but I thoroughly enjoyed it!
I did earlier this year. It’s really amazing. I’m reading Violeta right now, which is about another wing of the same family.
Wow—she really has such a vivid imagination; crazy that there’s more. It feels like a much lighter 100 Years of Solitude, pretty awesome.
Read over 50 books this year. Here are my faves in no order. Books not pictured but should be included are Thomas Mann’s The Magic Mountain and Joy Harjo’s The Woman Who Fell From the Sky.
I managed to finish 25, including audiobooks. That’s a lot for me. I’m a fast reader but I get distracted.
The Summer Book is one of my favorites, I don't often re-read books much but that one I love picking up randomly every once in a while. It's the perfect mix of low-stakes comfort reading, but also reminds me of my own childhood in really strange, specific ways.
Not a big YA horror fan because I don't care for the romance in them but damn The Weight of Blood was excellent. Couldn't put it down.
Allende’s The House of the Spirits ruled. Just simply impeccable fiction. Onto the next one, potentially John Williams’ Stoner
I wish I could read that for the first time again. Haven't read Blacktongue Thief but I have only heard good things.
In the Dream House is absolutely devastating but utterly brilliant; this is one of the better things I have read in a long time.
I appreciated the story being told but if I’m being honest the second-person POV bothered me throughout the whole book.
The Enigma of Room 622 has been much less of a slog than I anticipated and I'm thoroughly enjoying it
Absolutely loved House of the Spirits and I know I’m going to cherish it for years to come. I need to read more fiction like this! Maybe I should finally check out Gabriel Marcia Marquez… I started Babel, or the Necessity of Violence on Saturday. I’m pretty excited for this one.
Im one of those that Babel just did not sit with. I'm not really a fan of academia. I can see why it was loved, that cover is gorgeous too, but I didn't like it! That being said - it has highly rated reviews and was on many a best-of list.
Finished Stella Maris by Cormac McCarthy. A slim but interesting enough companion to The Passenger. Now getting back into my Abe Lincoln mode and catching up on some books that were released in the last few years. First up, a book about his second inaugural address.
Just started Our Digital Soul by Jenny Black and Bob Hutchins about media trauma ruining society. Fun stuff. Going to read Hamlet after that because I’ve never read Shakespeare. Want to get into more plays. Any recs for plays?
Six Characters in Search of an Author by Luigi Pirandello is great. Edit: this is a play, just in case.
