Speaking of adams, I just picked up a copy of Shardik at goodwill. WD is one of my favorites as well, but I've never read anything else by him.
Let us know how it is! I added a bunch of his books to my GoodReads after WD. Definitely intrigued about his other stuff. In other news, I’m about midway through Knut Hamsun’s Hunger and it is frenzied and brilliant in the greatest way.
I am not actually surprised by this, but I’m about 130 pages into Devil House, and John Darnielle is a damn good writer.
I’m waiting on Devil House to arrive to my local library. I put a hold on it before I even realized it was literally John Darnielle lol I’m a casual Mountain Goats fan but never read anything by him. Excited for it!
Almost finished with Alan Paton’s Cry, the Beloved Country. Man oh man what an incredible book! Pretty much everything I want in a novel is here. There are a few chapters that miss the mark for me (IMO), but for the most part it’s unbelievably good stuff.
I finished Harlem Shuffle by Colson Whitehead last night and I really loved it. I'm a sucker for heist stories, so Part I of the book in particular flew by for me. Really some exceptional character work here.
this is on my list; Nickel Boys is my favorite I’ve read from him so I think he’s getting better all the time
I think I'm going to add Nickel Boys to my list as well. Between this and The Underground Railroad, he hasn't missed yet for me.
I legit did a double take. I was assuming we were never going to get The Passenger or anything more from him until maybe post-humously. It's been 16 since his last release. That's insane.
Oh yeah its one of my favorites, the most recent book was incredible and the final book comes out soon
Wanted to share this little article run by my undergraduate university's newspaper, about my recent poetic-fiction novella Below Torrential Hill. It was great reconnecting with my school and being interviewed by them. Feels very "full circle" THE EAGLE: Author and AU alum discusses how community is essential to book writing
Recently read Lispector's Hour of the Star. Seriously incredible, just way too short. I really wanted more. After that, I tried Holy the Firm by Annie Dillard. I loved Pilgrim of Tinker Creek but this didn't really hit for me.
@OotyPa Just ordered a copy of Below Torrential Hill. I'm craving a good coming of age story, so it's gonna be my next read after I finish up The Trigger by Tim Butcher.
Dang, you just made my day. I've been lowkey feeling like all the excitement about it has turned to silence in only a few months. Thanks so much for picking up a copy and I truly hope you enjoy it. Feel free to reach out if you want to discuss :)
