Has anyone read Bunny by Mona Awad? I’ve heard people say it’s Mean Girls if it was written by Stephen King which has me super intrigued haha

Really enjoying Light in August though some of the subject matter is tough and pretty damn dark considering its title. I do like how Faulkner just lets the atmosphere wash over any and everything.

  5. Anyone reading Sellout by Dan Ozzi?

  7. Yeah I’m up to the Blink-182 chapter. So far I’m really enjoying it!

I am. I’m on the Jawbreaker chapter, which is early. I enjoy it. I was thinking of making a thread where people can discuss the albums but I doubt it would catch on.

Yeah, Sellout is great. I say go ahead and start a thread! I've been listening to every album the book brings up, including stuff I've never heard before!

How are you liking it? Feels a bit wasteful to do this, but I'm strongly considering upgrading to it from my 2014 Paperwhite.

I love it. My old one was from 2015 and the battery was dying on it so I didn't feel too bad upgrading. The new bigger size to me is the best feature. It's not gigantic compared to older models but it makes a pretty big difference in reading quality. Just seems to flow better since I'm not flipping pages quite as often.

Finished The Fisherman. Very good book - during the middle section, I found myself wishing it would hurry along, but once it got back to modern day I found myself thrilled to have such an extensive backdrop.

Started Clowns in a Cornfield because it sounded like mindless fun; I don’t tend to read YA but so far it’s already a blast.

Got a new Paperwhite and wow, it’s seriously an amazing upgrade from my 2014 Paperwhite. I was on the fence about making that jump but man am I glad I did.

I’m on the fence about starting Imaginary Friends after Clown in the Cornfield. I saw some hype in here but I’ve been seeing a lot of people calling it a religious book masquerading as horror?

I don’t remember getting that vibe at all. I thought it was exquisite. Very King in his prime. I think @Vivatoto loved it, too. He may remember more than me.

I mean, it uses christian mythology, in truly fascinating ways, but so does something like The Excorcist. It's a horror book first and foremost, honestly it's one of my favorite books I've ever read. The closest thing I can think to compare it to is IT, which is literally my favorite book. I'm an atheist and I never felt preached to or anything. The ways in which it uses that stuff is spoilery though so I'd avoid reading too much about it if you plan on reading.

Currently reading this and that's a pretty accurate opinion on it so far haha. Enjoying it a lot. Kinda like Mean Girls meets the Craft imo

Just finished Faulkner’s Light in August and it was excellent, albeit heavy as hell. Some really disturbing moments but impactful. Dude can truly craft a sentence to magnificence.

You’re going to love it! I totally did. It’s definitely one of the best books I’ve read in many years.

I was the black sheep of my college’s English department because I was the only one out of forty that didn’t think Annie Dillard was special. So her coming up here all these years later is very funny to me.

Not to knock anyone for loving her, just something I’d forgotten about.
