I've barely read any classics and I pretty much only read high fantasy but I'm going through a history phase right now. The Book Thief Memories of Ice The Burning Catch 22 Black Swan Green
Realizing this could also be a list of my five favorite authors, as I’m a big fan of all of their other work and it was difficult to narrow it down to one book (or volume) 1. Swann’s Way by Marcel Proust 2. The Vegetarian by Han Kang 3. Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marquez 4. 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami 5. The Castle by Franz Kafka
I've had others check it out in this thread and I actually just listened to the audiobook yesterday in preparation for the Netflix movie coming this week, but There's Someone Inside Your House by Stephanie Perkins may do it for you. Admittedly it's not great and very teen drama/romance-y but it's pretty easy to read and fairly short so I'd say give it a shot
I started The Final Girls Support Group by Grady Hendrix yesterday. Hoping it's better than Final Girls by Riley Sager
Just read the description and sounds right up that slasher style! The goodread reviews are very funny because everyone seems PISSED but I'm not sure what else to expect haha
OH definitely let me know what you think of this. Grady Hendrix is an author which I've read mostly all his books but for some reason just never love them. I almost grabbed this back in July but then realized I have to stop buying books new from B&N lol
Oh also re: top 5 books talk I don't know that I can make 5 off the top of my head but to 3 would probably be: The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee If I think of any others I'll update this post
Haha oh yeah, good ole GR Reviews, Gotta love those! I tend to enjoy most things and don't think I've ever given anything below like a 3 but I'd say this is like a 3.5 for me. Buying books is definitely not a cheap hobby! What others of his would you recommend? So far it's definitely different than I expected but I feel like that's almost always the case for me lol
I’ve read: We Sold Our Souls The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires My Best Friend’s Exorcism I really don’t recall if I really LOVED any of them, but probably My Best Friend’s Exorcism was my top out of the 3. Then Vampires. I really didn’t care much for We Sold Our Souls. I cannot remember if I did read Horrorstor lol
I’m really liking the new Franzen so far. I quite like all of his books. I feel like that isn’t fashionable to say? Eh.
oooohhhh I didn’t know he had a new one out!?! I’m a huge fan of his work. I read The Corrections during a very strange time in my life of being between jobs and careers and ended up reading it in about 20 straight hours. I don’t think I’ve ever laughed harder while reading a book. So good. And I love Freedom. I had never heard of him or the hoopla with Oprah until well after reading The Corrections so I guess that’s why some dislike him and I guess (from reading reviews on Goodreads) that he was kind of forced on people as some new great savior or something (at least that’s the impression given in reviews) but idk I’m not connected enough to the literary world to hear or see that stuff lol. Easily one of my favorite writers for Corrections and Freedom alone. Twenty-Seventh City was a solid start. Don’t think I’ve read all his work yet. I believe I’ve only read those three and a series of short stories or essays.
Missed top five book talk The winter of our discontent - Steinbeck The sun also rises - Hemingway Dune - Herbert The dark forest - cixin liu The mysteries of Pittsburgh - chabon
That’s a great first three! All books I love as well. forgot about The Sun Also Rises. That one is great. For better or worse, I read that entire thing in one night in one sitting. I just “got it” and didn’t have anything else to do so just cruised right through it. Only downside of doing that is I’m not sure it stuck with me as well as if I only read 20-30 pages a day for a week. Definitely have to revisit at some point.
I'm just under 200 pages in The Troop by Nick Cutter and I'm absolutely loving it. Just feeling the dread rising and rising.
Just finished Looking Like The Enemy by Mary Matsuda Gruenewald about her family's internment during WW2. Definitely a harrowing read.
