My fiancé and I decided to do a switch and read one of each others’ books. I love horror/thriller/mystery and she’s more into historical fiction and YA romance novels.

For our swap she is reading Mr. Mercedes (Stephen King) and I will be reading the Vanishing Half (Brit Bennett).

Currently loving Rainer Maria Rilke's The Notebooks of Malte Laurids Brigge.

In a way, it kind of reminds me of Lispector in its depth of interiority and stunningly poetic prose, and the self-excavation for existential purpose thing. Obviously different, but there's some crossover. This is my first Rilke (besides Letters to a Young Poet) and I think I'm going to dig into Duino Elegies next.

Anyone reading the newest book from Alex Michaelides: the Maidens? He wrote the Silent Patient.

I bought it last night and have already blown through 160 pages. Thoroughly enjoying it.

Finished the Maidens! I flew through this book as it reads so quickly and definitely kept me intrigued until the end. I think I read it in 2 sittings. However, I do have some thoughts on the ending which left me feeling ???

I liked the Silent Patient more but I’ll def not hesitate to read the next book from this author. Still a fun read!

I'm currently reading The Cousins by Karen McManus have you read any of her stuff? It's definitely more YA/Teen but I enjoy her. Then I am finally gonna start Coast To Coast Murders if Maidens doesn't come in at the library first.

Totally missed this, but hmm no I have not. I actually don’t think I’ve heard of this author. Any good recommendations?

Also excited to hear what you think of Coast to Coast Murders plus The Maidens!

She's only written 4 books so far so there isn't much to really get through. All of her stuff so far has been the general YA affair but I've enjoyed One Of Us Is Lying and One of Us Is Next quite a bit. Two Can Keep A Secret is a standalone book and it was fine but definitely liked the others more

In Germany Rilke is still ubiquitous. There was even this album by German superstar singers that made songs out his stuff.
