Finished Go Tell it on the Mountain by James Baldwin and highly recommend it. The book was so well written and enticing without being about more than a family.
This one is on my list. I'm so excited to read it. I've heard nothing but good things about it. One of my friends told me they hated Great Expectations... I almost cried... How could anyone hate that book?
2/3 of the way done with Name of the Wind. Still loving it. I can't wait to finish so that I can move on to book two. i think when I'm done with these two, I'm going to try something a little shorter and Sci-fi. Maybe Redshirts or something.
I would like to apologize to everyone in this thread that I did not believe when they told me how amazing House of Leaves was because you were right and I was wrong. I'm not even halfway through it yet but I already love it so much
sorry, hated it. I did absolutely love parts of Hard Times though. reading Wolf In White Van now. I watched Capote the other day and I've not been able to stop thinking about it, so I'm gonna read In Cold Blood next. as far as Cursed Child goes...I blew through it and had a nice time reading it, and that's pretty much all I ever expected. no way it would ever feel like one of the main novels--as a script it naturally feels a bit shallower (and so I think a lot of the big cannon shifts would come off a bit lamer than they would in prose or on stage).
I finished Tiger, Tiger a memoir about a girl's relationship with a pedophile for 15 years. Should probably have put it into the horror thread because it was so shocking the amount of manipulation one man could have over a small child. It was heart breaking. Even more so for me because it happened just one town over from where both of my parents grew up and where my mom lived for quite some time just a little after their time period. Started One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and am already very much enjoying the way it is written. Have refused to watch the movie all this time so I could read it so I figured I might as well actually begin it.
I'm new to this thread so I have a couple of things. 1) Read The Cursed Child recently and I honestly loved it! I couldn't put it down and that it was a cool addition to the HP Universe but I could see how it can come across half-assed and fan fiction-y 2)Finished Warlock Holmes: A Study In Brimstone last night. It was definitely interesting just not quite as funny as I was expecting. 3)I have several graphic novels that are due at the library soon that I'm gonna work through this week and then I'm gonna start Veronica Mars: Mr. Kiss and Tell
Currently have 4 books that I've started, but not finished. Infinite Jest, Barbarian Days by William Finnegan (this was a library ebook I didn't finish in time so I had to go back on the waitlist for it), Writings on the Wall by Kareen Abdul Jabbar, and The Rare Earth Exchange by Bernard Besson. And I still need to start the new book for Missaligned this week. Guess I really need to get some reading done hah.
Not sure if you've done this or not but with eBooks you can DL them to your eReader and turn off the wifi and you can keep it as long as you want as long as your wifi isn't turned back on.
Yeah the reviews I've read for it make it sound insane. They had a few excerpts that they swore made sense in context but I read them and was like whaat the fuuuck. It will be interesting.
Well that's good to know! I'll have to remember that for next time. In the meantime, I need to finish the other books. Although I only made it about 50 pages in Infinite Jest before setting it aside, oops.
