Just finished it and I'm surprised how negative the takes are. I liked it! Morrison and Wen are great. The Tusken stuff was cool. Enjoyed seeing Cad Bane in live action. Idk some weird decisions were made but this is much better than any of the marvel shows at least (low bar but still)
Yea I wouldn’t defend the Marvel shows as being great or anything but I’d put all of them above this. And I didn’t even really like Loki.
Third episode is a mixed bag. Danny Trejo rancor trainer? Good. Scooter Gang speeder chase? That was pretty rough. The mayors assistant is just an annoying character. The past timeline continues to be much more intriguing than the present day one.
Episode four finally flipped it where I care more about the present day than the past. The meeting of the crimes bosses and Krrsantan in the Casino were both solid scenes. I wish Fennec had more to do so far. In Mando and Bad Batch it feels like she takes action the moves the plot. Here she just kind of tells Boba Fett about who or what things are on Tattooine.
Just remembering that Boba had his armor on when he left the sarlacc, why did he go back for it? I liked the horror vibes of how the scene was shot but what was the point? Just so we could get a seismic blast off?
It's really funny to read your reports and see the same comments people were making when the episodes came out. Gives me a deja vu feeling, but not in a bad way.
Yeah not unrealistic that he wouldn't remember given its been years? since he left at that point. Plus the general trauma and fact he was pretty out of it when he escaped. Isn't explained well in the show though.
The timeline of those events is also not explained. Looking for the armor in there doesn’t mKe any sense. Does he think he took it off and then got out? Does he think he was pulled out and then someone threw his precious armor back in? Neither make sense. Trauma or not, memory or not, it’s dumb.
I’m going back the through and reading the comments. Seems like the consensus is the show is bad. I think I’m enjoying it a little more than most but also still not sure what the point of this show is.
The point of the show was to serve as a prologue to season 3 of the Mandalorian while also giving us something since that 3rd season is not ready yet.
I thought people were exaggerating, but episode 5 really was just an episode of Mando haha. The opening scene was more brutal than I would have expected. That halo city was very cool and I hope we spend more time there at some point. The flashback to the empire wiping out Mandalore gave me Terminator 2 vibes. I pretty much loved everything in the first half of the episode. The second half was fun, but felt like it could have been trimmed down just a hair. There were parts that seemed to just be there to remind us of scenes from Phantom Menace. And now I am dreading the next episode bit, because I'm guessing there's going to be another uncanny Luke appearance and a line where he says "that naboo fighter was once flown by my father at the battle of naboo".
I was dreading episode six a bit because I was certain cgi Luke would be back. He was, but I have to say it looked 10 times better. The movement of the mouth still gives it away, but that was a massive improvement. However, the voice is so bad. It does sound like a young Mark Hamill, but a drunk version. They make the voice talk soooooo slow. So I'm still team just recast him. It's not that big of a deal. A couple of other thoughts: - Loved Luke using the force to move Grogu as they walked. Also Grogu taking a nap on the walk after killing the training orb was great. But also Luke zapping a baby with that thing makes me think he's a little bit of a psycho. - At first I rolled my eyes a little at the empire call backs during the training scenes. But in the end mirroring what we've seen before ended up working for me, because it kind of showed that Luke doesn't really know what he's doing at this point. He's just copying what Yoda did for him. - The droids building the temple were really cool. This show has had some neat little world building details like that which I've appreciate. The bench gag was great. - LMAO after Cobb Vanth and the deputy get shot, everyone in the town runs to check on Cobb but ignore the deputy. That dude definitely seemed like he sucked, so I get it. Overall, enjoyable episode.
Also gotta mention Cad Bane. Introducing him this late in the game feels weird, but we'll see. Also his design is weird. Looks like a child with chubby cheeks being smushed into a helmet.
The voice is all AI so it can’t get the cadence correct yet, but his looks have been improved drastically. They were smart hitting the deep fake people from YouTube.
That finale was all over the place. No idea what Cad Bane was doing in this show. Either make him the villain from the start or establish some Pyke big bad for the end. The rancor destroying the town at the end is a fun idea, but it felt like filler here. Having Grogu return to Mando in a spin off show is certainly a choice. It makes the Luke appearance at the end of season 2 feel even more like lazy fan service. Though I suppose it still remains to be seen if he shows up in Mando again. Or maybe it’s yet another back door pilot? Overall I mostly had a good time with this show, but I don’t think they had a solid idea of what it was going to be before they green lit it. The flashback tusken stuff could have made a fun 1.5 hour movie. What they gave us from the present day stuff could have been a Mando season 3 sub plot. Or just flesh it out more so it can actually fill a season without having to bring in Mando.
What, you didnt like having no real main villain, but instead a parade of characters? The hutts had two scenes and man was it worth every second….
