I wondered if they were taking a significant downturn

I mean they review pop punk and stuff now

but at least they still do reviews for a few jazz and experimental releases when other publications dont

What's everybody's go-to music site for news/reviews? I really don't care for p4k's writing anymore. I like Stereogum a lot too, Spin even a little as well.

Twitter lol. I just follow the writers I like there and I learn and see more than I ever did from an actual publication. S/o David Drake and al Shipley in particular

    The rivalry is back on

Thelineofbestfit.com is probably my go to, mainly for indie pop/rock recs. Their longform pieces are normally very good, and the reviews are good enough.

And then p4k too, but less now than a few years ago.

The worst thing about the site now is the ongoing decline of BNTs.

Decline of track reviews in general which sucks because that's where I gravitated the most on the site in recent years

the funniest part is they presented and debuted them as "classic album" reviews but then give like, red hot chili peppers a 7. or the ramones a 6. lol.

GVB still posts better stuff than most blogs out there, haha.

also adding tiny mixtapes to my list

The ramones one was so weird. I actually liked the review, but why use this "classic review" segment to review one of their worst records instead of one of their true classics? weird stuff

Probs because everyone else has already reviewed the staples.

Right, but p4k doesn't even have reviews up for Ramones or Rocket to Russia. I guess for me since part of the purpose of this whole Sunday Review thing was to "examine an important album not previously found in our archives," it seems weird they went for End of the Century first. But then again I'm totally nitpicking, and still enjoyed the review. Whole concept / execution is dicey but I enjoy reading most of the pieces.

pitchfork is doing an ama, and we can finally lay the "consensus scoring" thing to rest forever

    PitchforkStaff[S] 2 points 2 minutes ago

Scores are a collaborative process between the writer and the editor. We typically have an idea of a score range that the writer wants to work within when they pitch the review. After that, writer and editors talk about it, and we arrive at a number that we feel makes sense for the quality of the record. -MARK
