Is it off-base to assume this was quite influential for bands like Arcade Fire, The War on Drugs, and even The 1975? Feel like I'm listening to all three of those bands with a hint of Springsteen tossed into a blender and shot back in time
I'm even getting some National, LCD Soundsystem, Broken Social Scene, and Killers vibes lol. Just very prestigious sounding, driving, and beautiful synth-tinged indie rock, but without the pretentiousness that can sometimes get in the way of the bands I mentioned previously (many of which I love). It's wild that that a record from 1989 (let alone 1984) can sound this in line with relatively modern indie rock. I moved right on to A Walk Across the Rooftops.
I just splurged on a vinyl copy of Hats - amazing album for some reason it’s a real go to during the holidays for me
Have had some pretty horrible/scary stuff going on recently and this is the first band that I've been turning to for some sense of solace. Just perfect art
Thinking of you! Hang in there and if there's anything a stranger on the internet can do to help, don't hesitate to ask.
Just checking out Hats for the first time… wow. Can absolutely hear a big influence on a lot of The 1975’s moodier songs, but this is just on an entirely different level. Words really can’t describe how lush and enveloping the atmosphere is.
Those first two records are truly something. Recently did a full discography run, and I was really hoping to like Free At Last and High a lot more than I did.
It took me a little bit longer to get into the later records but there's definitely brilliance in them. The first two are unmatched, though.
Ha, actually only just recently when I was reading back through this thread and saw you reference it. Really beautiful stuff.
