that's the only one that threatens to go into full "eat pray love" / "dance like no one's watching" territory to me. the four-song closing run after that is my favourite stretch of the album though
"No Joy", "Take", "Metal", "Til My Heart Stops" are current faves (yes I know that's like half the album)
I don’t know why my brain is doing this, but is anyone else hearing Pink’s “Who Knew” in “Til My Heart Stops”? I feel like you could play it over top and it fits perfectly. Is this a warning sign to seek medical attention? EDIT: I think it is just something with the verses. The chorus, not at all.
"Mosquitoes" and "Till My Heart Stops" are awesome. I liked "Metal" as a single but it grew on me even more in album context.
"No Joy" strikes me as being a lot better in context, too. Metal is an all-time song, for me. Just stunning writing. The album and band in general seem to really resist flash-in-the-pan output, like I will still be catching stuff and sorting out the lyrics for a long time. Very solid follow-up to Expert in a Dying Field, which is maybe my favorite album to come out since the pandemic.
finally sitting down with this today. opener is a straight ripper. "Metal" will probably end up top 5 song of the year. insanely replayable.
I'm loving this album from them, still accesible but there's so much depth to these songs compared to past albums.
It’s good! Def more subdued than the last, but I like it a lot. Nothing quite knocks me on my ass like the first time I heard “Best Left,” but “Metal” has probably come the closest.
Love this album a lot, but it did take a few listens to fully grow on me, especially the back half. But now I wake up with random songs from this in my head all the time. “Take” is a sneaky favorite.
I think it has more of a feel of a collection of songs than a cohesive album, but I think all the songs are incredibly strong. “Roundabout” and “Til My Heart Stops” are both really great love songs and the darker stuff like “Ark of the Covenant” just hits.
I'd agree with that. It's probably my least favorite of theirs, but that's still a top 10 album of the year for me.
