It’s been a strong first half of the music year for me. And one of the big reasons is that Moving Mountains release has decimated me in the best way possible. Earnest, emotional, and down right exciting. It’s the kind of album that I go into every year hoping I’ll find. The one that just knocks me on my ass. The rest of my top thirty is rounded out with a bunch of great music, some fun EPs that are worth your time, and as a whole I’ve been very pleased with how the year’s gone so far. And the best part? I know we have a lot of great music coming in the back half of 2025. Buckle up!

The Stats: For the first half of the year, I’ve listened to 1,097 albums, 531 artists, and 8,502 songs (14,156 scrobbles). My most played album of the year so far is Midtown’s Living Well is the Best Revenge. (Well, how about that.) And, my most played artist so far this year is The Ataris. Was genuinely disappointed with the Turnstile record. I realize now it’s very taboo to give any criticism towards the band who’s done so much for hardcore but my opinion is my opinion. The video component is without a doubt my favorite part of the album rollout but it just feels like a Glow On 2.0, which maybe isn’t such a bad thing considering what it did for the band. Just hoped to see the limits being pushed even more but I didn’t feel like that really happened.

So happy to see Hotline TNT, Greet Death, and Silverstein on the top 25! And while I was really let down by the Superheaven record, it’s great to see the band getting love.

I think it's the best project he's been a part of in a very long time, and it's a great summer record.

i've just listened to Moving Mountains for the first time - thank you thank you thank you - this album is jaw to the floor stuff like the first time I heard Clarity, Transatlanticism or In Motion and don't come around often... Track 8 'Snow On Norris Street' just blew my balls off as well - was not expecting any double time on this album haha

    THANK YOU!

Interesting list with plenty of new stuff to check out and then other albums that let me down. I honestly don't listen to nearly enough NEW music these years to even have a top 25 but surprised to see some albums make the consensus list. Will check out what I haven't listened to and maybe go back to some ones that didn't stick for me first go around.

The National have never been a band I've associated with summer, so I'm curious what a Matt Berninger "summer record" sounds like.
