Katie Pruitt was one of the mean girls in high school, but man can she write some incredible songs. She's really grown up over the years. Really cool to see.
I think folks who like the Phoebe Bridgers and Soccer Mommy records will also like the new Beach Bunny and Ratboys records.
The ones I knew I picked my favorites or ones I thought were representative, if I didn’t know I picked the most popular one on Apple Music.
Brave Faces Everyone is easily the best album that has been released this year imo. It will be the album that defines what 2020 felt like. Spanish Love Songs - Brave Faces Everyone Gleemer - Down Through Hot Mulligan - You'll Be Fine Seer Believer - Bent Dogleg - Melee Charmer - Ivy Mansions - Big Bad Forest Green - In Waves Phoebe Bridgers - Punisher
For me so far... Hayley Williams - Petals for Armor Poppy - I Disagree Charli XCX - how i'm feeling now Rina Sawayama - Sawayama Phoebe Bridgers - Punisher Yaeji - WHAT WE DREW 우리가 그려왔던 The 1975 - Notes on a Conditional Form Is Julien Baker still supposed to release something this year? If not, I'm incredibly confident in Hayley & Poppy being my top two at the end of the year. Those two have done a great job of summarizing two sides of my 2020 vibe, lol. Could see Phoebe not quite being in my top 5 at the end of the year, but "I Know the End" has a real shot at being my favorite song of the year.
Gonna legit give this list a listen to this week as I've been bored as hell with what I've listened to so far released this year.
So excited. So many new albums to check out. Not even a little love for The Airborne Toxic Event is astounding to me though???
Best albums not on this list: The Weeknd -- After Hours I'm Glad It's You -- Every Sun, Every Moon Too high: Hayley WIlliams (sorry) Too low: Jason Isbell
I didn’t get my list up in time to have my blog, but Airborne was in my top ten for the list that made the staff list. Pretty sure they’re on Jason’s list, too.
While I'm very appreciative and thankful these lists are put together its becoming very clear to just how different my tastes have changed from this sites which is fine. The only real things that stuck on there for me at first glance were All Time Low, Silverstein, Lady Gaga. Thought Halsey and Selena were ok also (then again I guess this year has been short of albums with all the craziness going on.
Love these lists I always find multiple new things I enjoy. I've tried getting in the Hayley Williams and Soccer Mommy albums but I'm just not enjoying them. So far in no particular order my top: Brian Fallon - Local Honey Phoebe Bridgers - Punisher Hot Mulligan - You'll Be Fine Spanish Love Songs - Brave Faces Everyone City Mouth - Coping Machine
I find this so odd when the top albums include Dua Lipa, All Time Low, Run The Jewels, Jason Isbell, and Anti Flag. There’s something for everybody on this list across so many genres. Also, I’ve listened to over 200 new albums this year, it’s definitely not short on albums. If you have any favorite albums from this year to you personally, I might be able to recommend some others I think you might like.
Spanish Love Songs - Brave Faces Everyone Anti-Flag - 20/20 Vision Brian Fallon - Local Honey The Bombpops - Death in Venice Beach Worriers - You Or Someone You Know Bad Cop Bad Cop - The Ride Phoebe Bridgers - Punisher
Haven't listned to too many new albums this year but I’ve been into Gleemer - Down Through Tame Impala - The Slow Rush Soccer Mommy - Color Theory Mansions - Big Bad The Strokes - The New Abnormal excited for the new Washed Out album and The Night Game if that’s released this year
The year is going strong musically, now I'm at work with "Beginners" by Christian Lee Hutson in the background and this one is so good too. But my number 1 would also definitely be "Punisher" so far, though I have a few records that I've listened to more, but only due to the fact they came out a few months ago already. The best new band from the list would be Dogleg for me! A few solo records that are amazing and I'd highly recommend them, just to stick with one type of albums that was first to come to my mind: Ethan Gruska - En Garde (guest vocals by Phoebe Bridgers, Moses Sumney, Lianne La Havas, also a great producer imo) Jenny Dee - Dancing From a Distance (produced by Aaron Marsh from Copeland with some beautiful lines sang by him on the record as well) Becca Mancari - The Greatest Part (produced by Zac Farro from Paramore, also Julien Baker has got some background vocals on it)
