I cracked open a Perrin Big Griz that I managed to find, and this is way too smooth for a 12.5%. Perrin is killing it.
All the Fruchts were awesome. As was Mash & Grind 2015. Sit at the bar and chat up your bartender, because mine gave me free Chocolate Rain and 2012 White Chocolate which were Society member pours, haha.
considering opening one of my 3 dogfish head 120 minutes this weekend. Bought them in like, April or May. I've heard that you either need to drink them fresh or aged a few years-is this a bad "middle" point? Also a little worried that they might be a little fucked up because they've been in my closet which has probably hovered around 70-78 degrees the past few months.
I didn't really like 120 minute. I thought it tasted too syrupy. 90 minute was perfect for me. But I think you should be okay drinking it now.
I wouldn't drink 120 fresh. I found this years to be particularly boozy and basically undrinkable to me. Sit on them, though with three you can always crack one and try it out. I poured many at the bar I was working at when we had it on tap for people that couldn't get enough of it. Just wasn't my thing. I've got a bottle aging that I probably won't touch for a few years. The 70-78 thing shouldn't be that big of a deal, so long as it wasn't exposed to the light. The light will ruin a beer faster than sitting 70-80 degrees -- though that's starting to push the boundaries of temperature. Would prefer to keep it somewhere a bit cooler if at all possible. but mostly it's the light thing.
Got around to trying deschutes black butte porter and einstok toasted porter. Both really good, but I liked the einstok a tiny bit better. Really smooth. Now I've just got dogfish head Midas touch and high water brewing Stella blue left in the fridge to try. Then I'm gonna have to pick up some more new stuff!
I just realized I Haven't gotten the Dogfish Head Punkin Ale yet this year...that's a shame. I've bought about 10 different pumpkin beers this year already. So far my two favorites have been the Elysian Nigh Owl Pumpkin Ale and the DuClaw Pumpkin Spiced Lager. My aunt dropped off a 4-pack of Southern Tier Pumking over the weekend. I haven't had it this year yet. (Although I did have a 2-year-old pint in my fridge that I had a few weeks ago...still tasted great).
Yes! We are going to be friends. I love the pumking. Holy shit man...haha. I highlighted the ones I know for sure I've had over the past few years. I've probably had more just can't remember. I used to do 'create your own 6-packs' with individual pumpkin beers every fall and have definitely forgotten all the ones I've had. How do you track your beers? Do you have an app? I used to use Pintley back when it was free, but now I think it's like $10 or something. The only other ones I can think of right now are New Belgium Pumkick (last year was really bad, this year is OK. A little too sweet for me. I can drink one or two but anything more than that and it's too much). Jack's Pumpkin Spice Ale (I don't even know if they make that anymore. Haven't had it in years. Was probably the first pumpkin beer I ever had like 7 or 8 years ago). I'm sure there are more.
They normally release Tour de Fall every fall as well, but I haven't seen that yet this year. I pretty much love all New Belgium beers, but I REALLY didn't care for that Ben N Jerry's they released.
Binged way to much the past couple of days and now I have a fridge full of fresh IPAs I'm trying not to drink. First world problems. ughhh
You haven't yet had Cigar City's Good Gourd. My favorite (and really the only pumpkin beer I like). Their barrel aged variants from their bottle club are pretty delicious, too (rum and bourbon aged). If you're looking, you can get it here and have it shipped to you (if your state allows it).
I just cannot get into pumpkin beers. Especially when it's still 85. I just wish they would move pumpkin beer season to October-November and that's it. The fact that some come out the last week of July is fucking insane to me. Insane.
Yeah, I was actually halfway there when I got the twitter notification that it was KJ. Was soo stoked
I like some pumpkin beers. I aged a Southern Tier Warlock for two years, very excited to crack that one open this fall.
I over-pumpkin'd the last two years, like 30+ per year. Definitely going to give it a rest this year, maybe try to find my 2-4 favs from the last few years
