I had some more Waldo's last week and that beer is just on another level from the others listed. Chillwave is great, but if I have more than one or two, it gets to be too cloyingly sweet for me. Glad you enjoyed the Hopsolution. Thought it was super clean. Tasmanian hatter has a great nose on it; perhaps my favorite nose on a Michigan IPA.
I'm going to be in San Francisco next week. What are the 2 or 3 breweries I should try to visit while I'm there?
Cellarmaker. They don't have great breweries really in SF proper but they have a ton of great beer bars. So go to Torando, City Beer, Mikkeler Bar, Monk's Kettle. They'll all have great taps and bottles. If you go across the Bay you can go to Rare Barrel
So am I! Heading to Rare Barrel next since it's within walking distance of my friend's house, can't wait.
Also gonna go to Triple Rock on Thursday night to try their Monkey Head Arboreal Ale which is supposed to be really good and only served on Thursdays.
Also one more thing to note Temescal Brewing is opening on June 12th if you're around. The head brewer was an assistant at Cellarmaker. Could be dope.
Managed to grab the last 6-pack of Tasmanian Hatter and am looking forward to trying it. I also grabbed a bottle of Three Floyds War Mullet, Lagunitas The Down Low, and some Surly #Merica because 'Merica, and because it's 95 degrees outside, and because Dillinger Four. Have you tried the Short's/Half Acre collaboration Freedom of '78? It's an IPA made with Guava. I saw it, but was already buying too much, so passed for now.
Split a bunch of beers with a friend last night. Drank a lot of Omnipollo beers, including one brewed with Protein powder, which was surprising good. Also drank a bottle of Brooklyn's Improved Old Fashioned. It tasted like I was drinking an old fashioned. It was a perfect finisher beer for the night.
FINALLY got around to drinking Heady Topper. Fantastic. (Newbie here so take the following as you will) Kind of like a Hoppier Sam's with a hint of grapefruit? Delicious.
Headed to Fonta Flora's State of Origin festival tomorrow. Really excited for what's going on there, lots of saisons and sours for sure. The cool deal about it is that all beers served at the festival have to contain grown-in-NC ingredients. I know Jester King, Arizona Wilderness, and Scratch Brewing are all coming from out of state, as well as several unannounced surprises. Only bad thing is that it's going to be 95 degrees tomorrow, the festival is from 3-7, and there's zero natural shade around the site.
Nice! Hope you like it. It's nelson, mosaic and galaxy so it'd be hard to not at least be worth the cost ($12/six pack here). Every year I always think I like Freedom of 78 more than I actually do and I always buy it and then just go "oh, yeah, right." This year it's a lot of guava and then fairly bitter on the back end -- wonder if the the Half Acre version would be any different. The Shorts version I had was solid-at-best, kind of meh at worst. Too much bitterness for me, I suppose. Also, I guess I don't have a ton of experience with Guava.
Had a bottle share tonight with friends. Standouts: The Blen F'n Diculous that someone (i forgot who!) alerted the thread to. So fucking good. Loved every bit of it. Also, the 2010 BCBS Coffee Stout (obviously). Also had Delusion from Greenbush in SW Michigan and that was fucking delicious. Revolution's Straight Jacket that I bought last August was killer. Modern Times' hoppy amber ale (can't remember the name) was really good. There's nothing better, IMO, than sharing beers with good friends.
Glad to hear you loved the Blendy#3, @bigmike! I opened the first of my bottles earlier this week with some friends and it was terrific. I'm hoping some will make an appearance at the festival today too. Did you have any gushing problems with it? Mine did just a little but I was prepared after hearing others mention sporadic problems. Worst I've heard is that someone lost about 1/3 of a bottle.
Huge Trillium haul today A 64 of Skimpy Sparrow, 32 of Dialed In, and four bottles of DDH Congress Street
I had zero gushing issues at all. Really stoked I got to have it with my core group of beer friends so we can have it again in like 8 months and then again this time next year. I'll definitely be looking forward to No. 4 next year.
