Soft Parade is probably my least favorite new beer that I've tried in the last year and was the only one that I actually couldn't finish.
Yeah working at whole foods I kinda get first dibs on it, i really liked it though. Lemon wasn't to strong there was a good vanilla flavor with it. Not my favourite but it's solid.
Shorts make ciders under the name starcut and they made one called immortal jellyfish which is Soft Parade as a cider and I think it's loads better than soft parade. It's all the berry flavor with a nice tartness at the end.
i had it tonight with some friends, and it really stood out as something unique. Nose is almost all lemon, but that vanilla balances it out well. I'd drink more.
I'll have to seek that out as they recently just started distributing to Chicagoland. I know shorts is sending all of their primary brands but I haven't seen very many, if any, of their specialty beers here. That actually sounds a lot better than soft parade. Some tartness as opposed to the malted fruit taste I got from soft parade might be better.
Rec'd my shipment from Inoculum yesterday. Tried the DREX last night and really enjoyed it! I'll try one of the Mother Ursa's tonight probably.
had a dream that sixpoint released a blueberry jammer and wanted it even though i tend not to find fruit beers very well done. would definitely try that one though.
i like what nick is doing over there. being so close to the brewery, i do wish i could grab a 4pk without the shipping, though.
packaged is all shipped at this time. one of the local breweries here, they've gotten a keg of his stuff from time to time. florida distributing laws aren't the best, especially in regard to packaged products.
That's pretty unfortunate. Its a shame, given what the craft industry has done to benefit many state economies, that states are still trying to stand in the way and throttle said businesses. Its gotten a lot better here in NC, but there was an exhausting multi-year battle to remove a 6% abv cap on beer a couple years ago. While they got the legislation to pass, raising the cap to 15%, it wasn't easy. The opposition rallied around a state senator who made a still-famous claim that "One craft beer is like drinking straight vodka."
Florida only allows craft distilleries to sell 2 bottles per label to a person in a calendar year. seriously. one distillery has gotten around it by getting multiple labels per release.
I think its only 1 bottle per distillery per year in NC, and up until a law change in 2015 we couldn't buy direct from distilleries at all I'm not much of a liquor drinker, except for single malts, so it doesn't really affect me at all. But its still dumb imo.
Geezus. The worst Mass has is a 128 oz per person per visit limit and we need to use brewery-branded growlers/you can't bring your own growler. Then again, the $5 deposit is worth it for a cool souvenir.
Yeah. I talked with one of the rep's at a tap event a few weeks ago and she said Chicago has honestly been kind of a slog so far for Short's because the market is so saturated. She also said that Ohio has been way better than anticipated. I'd expect to see some more seasonal stuff from them next summer. You'll likely get their Nicie which is a decent wheat beer -- it is what it is. If anyone wants any shorts seasonals, let me know. Currently have ControversiALE, Hopstache, their Gose I can't remember the name of at the moment (ocho de mayo, I think), and beard of zeus on our shelves.
I'll trade you something for that Gose. Edit: and after looking up the others, I'm pretty much interested in the whole gamut.
Had a Heady Topper and a Sip of Sunshine tonight with my buddy home from school in Vermont. Life is so nice.
Dark Horse is doing a tap takeover at Lillie's Q in Bucktown. So far I've had the Trippel and Bourbon Barrel Scotch Ale. Both solid. They also have a Bourbon Barrel Russian Imperial Stout.
Dark Horse, like Short's, is one of the more overrated breweries in Michigan. Plead the Fifth is a great stout -- and BBA PT5 is awesome, too -- but Scotty Karate isn't that good (though barrel-aged made it way better). They have, essentially, two very good/great beers: Plead the 5th Russian Imperial Stout Double Crooked Tree Double IPA People in Michigan lose their minds over Dark Horse and I don't know if it's because their show was the right amount of Midwest Duck Dynasty or what, but they just don't make that many compelling beers, IMO.
