How soon after your shot did you have a drink? My dad got his second shot last week and drank whiskey that night (I didn't even know he drank whiskey) I was super weird about my first shot. I purposely didn't drink for four days before the shot and two days after. From everything I've read, there are no known effects from drinking alcohol before or after the shot, but I didn't want to risk anything, haha.
First shot was a surprise on a Saturday so I had had a couple beers the night before and then I didn't have one after until the next day or the day after, can't remember exactly. Second shot I purposely didn't the night before and then this was about a full 48 hours post shot. I don't think it matters all that much unless you're prone to headaches, but I saw that the Russian guidance was hold off for 2 or 3 days and that seemed reasonable (plus I felt like absolute ass the next day so it wouldn't have been worth it anyways haha).
I'm embarrassed at how much time I've spent reading about the vaccine and alcohol, haha. The guidance is pretty much, so long as you feel OK, it's OK to have a drink but doctors recommend not drinking the night of (but it won't have any effects on vaccine if you do) mostly so you don't experience vaccine effects (fever/chills/headache) combined with a potential hangover. I was more worried about my first shot, because I had COVID in early February, so everything I read said the first shot is worse for those who had COVID (however, I had absolutely no effects from the shot), so wondering if my second shot will be worse.
Oh I don't think that's embarrassing at all, I did some googling myself both times. I think you're right on with what I've seen for guidance (especially given the trials didn't ask people to change their drinking behavior at all). Good luck with the second!
I had a beer the night after I got my first shot to celebrate. My wife asked me, "You sure that's a good idea?". Made me go down a Google wormhole, and I didn't find anything substantive beyond general lit that alcohol can affect the overall efficacy of a vaccine. I get my second shot Friday and plan on having a few beers during my Saturday Dungeons and Dragons session if I feel up for it so I'll report back afterwards.
I had a few beers the night of my first dose, it was a Saturday and I picked up some beer and pizza on the way home to celebrate. No ill effects for me, and I also did some reading on the combo of alcohol and vaccines and nothing indicated there were any issues. I get my second dose this Sunday evening, but don't plan to drink after since I usually don't drink on Sundays anyway and I know the after-effects can be much worse with the second dose. Also prepared to take a day off next Monday if I need to, or at least get a nap or two in.
I am by NO means a good indicator, because I legit never get sick, but I got my second shot on Friday afternoon then drank beer, whiskey, wine, whatever the rest of the night with family. I woke up a little hungover, but nothing shot-related
I was tired and had chills the day after the second shot. Took like a 3 hour nap. Was fine the day after
So, what you're saying is that alcohol alleviates any adverse symptoms from the covid vaccine and I should reconsider my plans not to drink that night. Thanks drthesteve! NOTE: I'm being facetious, but not sarcastic.
My second shot isn't until April 23...I think I'll probably go with the same plan I did for the first...not drink for a few days before and wait at least 24-48 hours to drink after. I also drank a SHITLOAD of water leading up to my shot and the day of and the day after. In addition, drank a liquid IV the day before, the day of and the day after. I have no scientific data to back this up, but I'm convinced the strategy led me to no side effects, haha.
Thanks! I appreciate it. Been fun to do. I'm not a creative person by nature so it's nice to try and tap into that. Though it makes me drink a lot more haha.
Happy National Beer Day everyone! Hope everyone drinks something a little more special than usual tonight.
I know now there is a national holiday for everything (ice cream, hamburgers, etc.) but yes, any excuse to have a nice drink.
So there actually is some historical context for National Beer Day: April 7th commemorates the passage of the Cullen-Harrison Act of 1933, allowing for the sale of "near beer" (def: 3.2% abv). Upon signing, FDR said "today would be a good day for a beer." Indeed it is.
