This is Burial’s foudre-aged version of their Baltic porter, Ulfbehrt. I tried the normal Ulfbehrt a while back and it was good but not super remarkable. The aging on this really intensifies everything. It’s super rich and chewy, almost like a dessert beer, but it doesn’t venture into overly sweet territory. Just super well done. Bottle art is amazing as well
Only ever had the pleasure of one 'proper' Trillium, which were brought over by a friend who lives in Mass. It was their Big Bird DIPA and it was incredible. Had to drive down to London to pick them up, so was a 300mile, 8 hour round trip ...but it was worth it (seeing him was pretty good also, but you know, beer)
Are there any vermont/mass people in here? I'll be hitting up Tree House Greater Good Imperial Brewing Merrimack Ales Alchemist Von Trapp Brewing Cold Hollow Cider Champlain Orchards Burlington Beer Prohibition Pig Stowe Cider Suarez Family (on the way home) Any other recs in those areas? Unfortunately hill farmstead is closed. I had trillium shipped to my wife's aunt and uncle in NH where we are staying Tuesday night since they aren't open Tuesday.
Who has a recommendation for a saison (5-7%) or barleywine (10%+) shippable to NC? I know you lot do beer trades, and I'm attempting to one with a neighbor.
Definitely seconding the Lawson's rec if you can swing it, it's <half hr from Pro Pig. If you're making your way into Burlington proper, add Foam for sure, pretty much Burlington Trillium. Never been to Fiddlehead and not sure exactly where it is but also good. If you love lagers, Notch in Salem MA is awesome. Their tap room is currently just serving cans on their patio, but if it's not out of your way the beers they sell at the brewery are excellent, they take those styles super seriously and are among the best at it. Their contract brewed stuff is just OK and all over the place, the lagers are amazing and just at the brewery and sometimes on shelves in Boston. If you go there The Standard is close to a perfect pils. Schilling in NH also makes great lagers, personally I'd say they're slightly less great than Notch but even easier to find and the actual brewery might be on your route if you're taking 91. If you're going 89 through VT, I've never had it but have heard River Roost is incredible for IPAs and it's right off the highway. Have heard similar about Spyglass in NH but no clue where it is. Last, you might find HF on tap once you're up to Montpelier or northward. Taplist | Three Penny Taproom - will note not sure what you'll find for outdoor dining assume you don't want to sit inside anywhere.
Foam and Notch go to Parker pie in VT they might have HF on tap or stop by Willey’s they normally have all the standard HF bottles for like $10
Absolutely love that Other Half or Veil or whoever was involved with the first one got this going as a trend that more breweries are doing now. Such a fun idea.
Yeah it was Other Half, I believe, if you're referring to that recipe they created to raise money for the service industry? The All Together IPA. I managed to grab most of the UK efforts and some were great. Some, not so great, but a worthy cause indeed so wasn't bothered.
Not beer obviously, but I made myself a White Russian for the first time in probably years. Forgot how good they were. It was the perfect day for one.
Been havin’ my fair share of Hopslams recently. My word. Good stuff. Gotta be careful not to have more than like, 3 though
