I don't see much Deschutes in the Northern VA area but I found their Fresh Squeezed IPA on tap tonight. Perfect for a patio dinner.
Well, the festival was a bit disappointing today. Not the best selection there, but definitely tried some new and interesting beers so it wasn't a waste by any means. Left the fest to visit a new bottle shop in town and hit a few Prairie and Ass Clown sours. Currently sitting by a fire doing a side by side of Heady Topper, Sip of Sunshine, and Swish. Good day.
I've got an Enjoy After 7.4.2016, too. Excited to get into it. I had Surly/Mikkeller's Brett Mikkels last night and really enjoyed it. Not too heavy on the funk, malt and hops still coming through. Really good take on a Brett IPA. I've brewed 6-7 times with friends and it's honestly way easier than it sounds. Even all grain brewing, which I always thought was going to be crazy hard, isn't difficult at all. My friend picked up a book by Dogfish Head's Sam Not Going To Try To Spell His Last Name and I think it was called Extreme Brewing and it had recipes in there that we followed. There's some up front costs in terms of getting big enough pots to mash in and whatnot, but nothing too crazy. All told, we got started for like $130 I think, and $80 of that was buying a seven gallon pot.
Wish I would have replied earlier. The Voodoo Brewpub in Homestead is a great place to check out. I'm also really fond of East End Brewing and Hop Farm. Hope you're having a good time!
I went to culinary school so I understand some basic concepts. Also cooked at a brewery (karben4). But the most help has been my girlfriend who has casually brewed for the past 10 years. It's been a great time so far. I'd love to do a class as well.
Slightly different topic but does anybody have experience in making whiskey? I have an optimistic idea to barrel on my (future) (maybe) (hopefully) marriage and each anniversary do a tasting of it. I think it'd be a good deterrent of divorce
What are people's thoughts on shandys? I'm a big fan of drinking those in the sun. Leinenkugel is my favorite, a delicious light beer.
you should use beermenus if you're interested in seeing what places have an tap before you go. not every place updates regularly but a bunch do
Interesting. I definitely am gonna have to try it at some point. Get Chorus up and running, get it so I can buy some stuff, brew and write about music forever? Yeah, sounds not bad at all.
Interesting. I need like a garage or something before I can give it a shot, but that's on my list of something I definitely wanna do before I die. Haha.
My brother in law just bought a house and is going to start brewing soon. He lucked out, too. The property has an RV port with electric and water hookup so he's going to build a shed instead and brew there.
picked up my first 4pk of Chillwave today. Gonna crack the first one for the second half of the Cavs game, probably. Hopefully it accompanies a nice, chill win.
Awesome, their Sour Cherry Bomb is one of my favorites. Hope you were able to make it to Roundabout Brewing in that neck of the woods as well.
