I know...Smile sounds incredible since I love boysenberries. Maybe I can get a friend to go in on it with me haha. Statement’s a bit easier for me to justify. I’ll have to ponder but I’ll definitely get at least one of the two. What’s your access to 3F and Tilquin like? I’m just thinking...even if I value the Allagash at $20, the 3F at $40, and the Tilquin at $35 (and all those prices are a bit high compared to what I normally see), that makes the Cantillon $60. And I personally don’t think the classic gueuze is one of their more remarkable beers (although still wonderful of course).
That price is yuck but I get the GD is a restaurant. That Allagash and A&G are both wonderful but they're like $14 and $35, respectively, in Boston. And granted you very rarely see them outside of Zwanze Day but Classic Gueze 375s aren't even $30 bar priced either.
I’d hazard a guess you wouldn’t have too much trouble finding Tilquin or 3F. I like Tilquin Oude Gueuze about as much as Cantillon Classic gueuze. 3F’s Oude Gueuze I like better. If you have access to either of those at a reasonable price (they may be available in 375s, not just 750s), I’d save throwing a big chunk of change at Cantillon for something like St. Lam, Iris, Fou Foune, Vigneronne, or even Rose (less rare but just as good), if you ever see one of those. But as I say that, I just bought one of each of those Schramm’s bottles
I took a look and one of my neighborhood beer bars has 375s of Tilquin Oude Gueuze for $23 and 375s of 3F Oude Geuze for $29. They also have the 3F Cuvee, and Oude Kriek for $38 (375s). Seems much worse haha. I'll check some stores to see if I can find some better deals.
sup gang, long time no see, tell me; what's y'alls favorite Milk Stout? i'm tryna look for some selection from different breweries since i have a very small selection in the town i live in adversely there's about 50 million goddamn IPAs at any given store i go to
Yeah, that’s absurd. Those may be their pre-covid on-premise prices. See if you can find a bottle shop or shop/bar hybrid with them, prices should be more reasonable
Looks like Burial is shipping to a whole bunch of states (30+). I've only had 2 of their beers in the past but this is great to know.
Good looking out. Nothing available now is grabbing me enough to pay the shipping but good to know. I also looked at a couple of Jersey City liquor stores’ online inventories and looks like there might be a couple varieties of Tilquin at good price points around you. Might have to venture out a bit further for 3F, although it looked like a couple stores have gotten in their beers before, just out of stock atm
Direct websites. Check out Super Buy Right and Jersey Wine and Spirits. But yeah beermenus can be good if lots of places around you use it and keep it updated. Untappd also has a “find beer” option which can sometimes be useful too. Otherwise just googling around for good beer stores and checking their websites is probably the best although most time-consuming method. Especially since so many stores have their inventory online now due to covid. I also follow a bunch of local beer stores on Instagram, because a lot of the time they will post when they get something special in. There are other good lambics out there too. The first unsweetened one I had was Lindeman’s Oude Gueuze Cuvée Rene, that and their Oude Kriek are both great beers at very reasonable price points. Boon Mariage Parfait and their Vat series. Girardin, Oud Beersel, De Cam, and Hanssens (leans aggressively sour and vinegar-y, not my thing personally) are all worth looking out for too. Bokke is an up and coming blender but very hard to get. I know there was a drop in NY a little while back. Haven’t been able to try. Got a bit carried away but lambic is my favorite beer style...happy hunting!
Where ya located? Stouts with lactose are everywhere rn but are trending up ABV-wise. Recently, Sunriver Cocoa Cow (chocolate milk stout, 7%) was a standout. But I don’t know if that’d be available for you
Today was a fucking day so I couldn't keep no alcohol til March up. Drinking gin and seltzer. Going to still not drink beer though.
I’m not really one to talk given I’ve been drinking 1-2 beers most days during the pandemic, but I will say that craft soda can be a really fun world to explore. I sometimes go for that instead of reaching for a beer. I’m also a big fan of Spindrift which is seltzer flavored with a small amount of fruit juice or purée. So it’s not zero-calorie but it’s close (usually around 10). Ito En bottled teas are another favorite of mine, but I know tea isn’t for everyone.
burial going wide fucking rules. favorite brewery. hope it blows them up more than they already have.
i'll try to look those both up, thx! and i'm from California, just inland of the Bay Area (a bit south of Sac) there's some good Sac breweries i've found out about (and Heretic is based in my town) but there's just rarely a wide variety of Milk Stouts to buy in any given store i go to i'm slowly trying to try new styles/brands of beer, it's tough when you're picky/slow to appreciate new things like me lol buying a six/4 pack isn't always ideal. i wish i went to more bars before this pandemic happened.
