It was $21.99 a pop for a 750 mL bottle too, which is a steal for Cantillon here in the states. It was the first Cantillon I ever tried I think back in 2017 on draft at a hidden gem of a beer bar. Totally blew my mind and the one I drank for the new year was as perfect as ever. I think I’ve still got 3 left. Probably will drink 2 of them within the next few months and maybe hold onto the third for a couple years to see how it develops. But we’ll see. :crylaugh:

About to crack Fou now, probably my fave beer of all time. This is a 2020 bottle so I’m guessing it’s gonna be jammy af with subtle funk

I think I paid $22 each for RDG and Kriek 375 ml bottles last year that I am cellaring. That’s a heck of a steal. Fou Foune is wonderful - I’ve had it a few times. Still trying to cross of a lot of the Cantillon offerings whenever bars have special events. Or wait until I actually go to Belgium.

That’s not terribly over-inflated compared to the prices I typically see. These Whole Foods prices were definitely $10+ below the cheapest I’ve ever seen Cantillon in the bay. So definitely the outlier. I think they were selling Fou (also 750 mL) bottles for $26.99. I paid $49.99 for this one so a bit painful in comparison, but they’re my local shop and I feel good about supporting them especially during the pandemic. Also just felt too good to be true, considering it was hidden inside a circle of Duvel bombers lol. And they might have had more in the back, but it was the only one out in the shop. Plus I had Hanukkah, Christmas, and my birthday all within a couple weeks so got a good amount of cash to treat myself with.

I’d love to go to Zwanze Day around here, but Belgium is def on the bucket list. My ex visited for her college grad trip and got to go to the brewery itself. I’m trying to remember how much she said the 375’s of Rose cost. 4 euros maybe? It’s crazy.

I did crack that Fou tonight and it was delicious. I think the jammiest batch I’ve ever had, which makes sense because it was bottled just 5 months ago. Even so, still balanced with moderate acidity and subtle funk. So good, and reminds me why it’s my favorite beer I’ve ever tried.

Side note, but imho Drie Fonteinen makes better straight up gueuze than Cantillon. And honestly I even prefer their kriek to Cantillon’s. But it’s Cantillon’s other fruited offerings as well as beers like Iris that showcase what they do best.

@irthesteve looking forward to the reveal! :crylaugh:

I’m having some strange sixth sense for Fou Foune the last couple days apparently. Friend was interested in Russian River’s Intinction Pinot Noir, which I knew a bottle shop over in Oakland had got in a week or so ago. So I checked their online store and lo and behold, no Pinot left, but they’d slipped in Fou for $30.50 and no limits. I’m def mindful of not monopolizing a beer but I couldn’t help but get 2. Will have the opportunity to age one now and see how the apricot:funk ratio evolves. It’s pretty curious that Cantillon is (relatively speaking) popping up all across the bay right now and at lower-than-usual prices. Starting to think my friend is right about Shelton flooding the market before they go kaput.

If anyone in this thread has insight into that, it’d be cool to learn more about distribution.

We just started bringing Dovetail stuff in at my shop, love their stuff. I seem to remember hearing good stuff about Begyle, but it's hard to keep all the breweries down there straight. Looks like they have some lesser-made styles I like, will have to snag some.

Ah nice, Half Acre is right around the corner from Spiteful so that's an easy add to the trip. Missed out on the Obsidian Throne this morning, but they have a bunch of other stuff in for curbside, so I'll grab some of that.

can Philly get some Whole Foods markets that randomly get Cantillon drops? that's absolutely insane. I've never seen (and never heard of anyone else finding) Cantillon in any bottle shops or anything around here. I've gotten standard Cantillon Gueuze in a bottle before at Monk's, but every other Cantillon I've tried has either been from a friend who went to Belgium, at a Zwanze Day event, or a random one-off keg that Monk's, Bru, or Cinder (RIP) got for a special event.
