Have you had any other St. Bernardus beers? The Abt 12 is, imo, the benchmark for quads. It’s pretty similar to the Christmas ale.
Beer haul from Stave and Nail, feat. my little brother. We’ve got Lemi Brux, a Brett saison with Meyer lemons; Secondhand Shadows, an imperial stout with coffee, toasted macadamia nuts, and coconut; and Derive Slow, a wild ale (partially spontaneously fermented) with peaches and mangoes. Plus a nifty glass!
I’ll definitely update this thread with my thoughts as I try them. Brand new brewery to me so I’m really looking forward to it!
Had a mulled Kriek last night and while I liked it enough I think serving beers warm/hot is not my thing.
nearly drank this puppy outside at the brewery (well spaced out, like six other people there) but 32 degrees is a bit too nippy.
Thought I would post some of the Best Beers of 2020 lists I've seen around the web: The 50 Best Beers of 2020 The Top 10 Beers I Drank In 2020 The 46 Best Beers of 2020, According to Brewers and Beer Geeks The Best 20 Beers in 2020 The 20 Best Beers We Drank in 2020 • Hop Culture Happy reading, everyone!
All the beers I have right now are 8% or more which is not good. Once I have three I have a serious decision to make.
Got a gift card from one of my favorite beer stores, grabbed a few beers for NYE. I’ve never had a gueuze before, I’m excited to try it.
You’re in for a treat with Tilquin. Gueuzes/lambics are unlike any sours or funky beers you’ll ever try. If you like it, I would try to get some Drie Fontinen bottles. Or if you have deep pockets, some Cantillon.
Excellent choice on the gueuze, Tilquin’s are excellent and I really like that original one. Really dry, perfect acidity, signature funk. There really aren’t any other styles similar to lambic/gueuze out there, and the American attempts I’ve tried are often good, but for the most part don’t really capture those same flavors. Probably because of the different regions. I’ll be very curious to hear your thoughts! It’s a special occasion style for me due to the price, but well worth it. I’m drinking an Allagash Starling Wit right now, an imperial wit with ginger. It’s excellent and paired nicely with my sushi dinner. EDIT: @momo32t for my money 3F’s Oude Gueuze and Oude Kriek are both better than their Cantillon counterparts. I think Cantillon really shines with beers like St. Lam, Rose de Gambrinus, Fou Foune, etc. where the fruit is front and center. Although I will say, some of Tilquin’s rarer fruited offerings (wild blueberry, Pinot gris, Pinot noir, plum, Riesling) hold their own against Cantillon’s imo
this convo reminded me of this article thatwas getting shared earlier in the month. still a style I need to explore more. The Rise of American Lambic-Style Beers
If you ever see this beer...get it! The only place I’ve ever seen it before was at City Beer Store, which happens to be where I used to work part-time before Covid. But it’s not only one of my favorite lambics I’ve tried, it’s one of the best beers I’ve tried in general. I was really lucky that we got a bunch of cases, so bottles were available for almost a year! I’ve moved on to Old Rasputin, one of the first imperial stouts I ever tried, and one I haven’t had in quite a while. It’s amazingly well-done.
i might actually like wine more than beer. making a beer that “takes notes from the natural wine process” is a pretty sure fire way to let me know your beer tastes like shit natural wine sucks ass
So I have 30+ beers in my fridge and am taking a break between Jan 1 and end of March when I go to new England because I gained like 15 lbs since March and most of it is due to drinking. I won't drink them all before the end of next week so I'm willing to ship what's left out. I'll take a pic of what's left when the time comes.
reading some of the lists linked above the greenville brewery sounds super interesting. somehow have never heard of them.
